[Guide] Removing the Halloween bugs

Depressedalmost 11 years ago

Have you seen those nasty, annoying spiders and flies on some of the pages on EpicMafia? These bugs make some users uncomfortable, and it has yet to be removed. Few players are complaining, and asking the same question over and over: "How do I remove these bugs?". Well, I'm here to provide a guide on just that!

Installing the Adblock extension for your browser

https://adblockplus.org/

It's available for 9 different browsers currently. The install button displayed on the website will install the extension for whatever browser you're using.

After you've installed Adblock, you will then add the filter for bugs.

Chrome

Method 1

Click on the ABP icon on the right to the URL bar. Then select "Block Element".

Then click on one of the bugs. (For ease, you can hover your mouse over them so they lay dead on the bottom of the window)

Confirm that the following filter is shown: epicmafia.com##.bug, then click Add.

Method 2

Type the following in the URL bar: chrome://extensions/

Click on Options then navigate to the "Add your own fillers" tab.

Add the following filter: epicmafia.com##.bug

Firefox

Method 1

Click on the ABP icon on the right to the URL bar. Then select "Open blockable items".

Search for: ##.bug, then right click and choose "Block this item".

Method 2 Type the following in the URL bar: about:addons

Then go to "Filter Preferences"

Then do the following: Navigate to the "Custom Filters" tab > Add filter group > Actions > Show/hide filters > Add filter

Add the following filter: epicmafia.com##.bug

Alternatives

uBlock Origin

Google Chrome: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/ublock-origin/cjpalhdlnbpafiamejdnhcphjbkeiagm

Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/nl/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/

Good riddance to you, bugs!

Also, when the bugs are gone, you should disable Adblock on this website to support EpicMafia. :)

If this guide has helped you, feel free to leave a like! <3

The
This is probably one of the most complicated ways to block the bugs with adblock.
I agree. I do apologize since I tend to overcomplicate things, but only to ensure that it's done right. Some people may not have the button on the top right. (Disabled it by mistake?)

I've added Method 1 for both Chrome and Firefox browsers, for a more... simple way to accomplish this.

and on that unrelated note you can turn that off at any time plus the whitelisted ads are usually tolerable (i still have them blocked because i'm an evil person ruining the internet's integrity by refusing to view ads)

I've added an alternatives section. :)

I would recommend using uBlock Origin over Adblock Plus as the former is less resource taxing.

I haven't used any other ad blocking extension yet, but thanks for sharing! Users are free to use whatever ad blocking extension they choose to; I've just decided to go with the more common and popular extension. I'm sure the filter is the same as well.

If it ever appears again, this is good for reference.
