It is ogi, because despite not having any intent to influence the game, you are still communicating outside the game and it subconsciously passes information. There is precedence for this. This should just be a note for ogi. You should not do this again. But I doubt you will stop. You will just do it and not tell us that you are doing it. Moreover, since you communicate during the game, I would not trust you if you said that you didn't role share when the chips were down.

1) it's not ogi because it neither had intent to influence the game nor influenced the game in any way

2) it's not cheating because the messages referred to by "fade read messages" had nothing to do with the game and demonstrably had no influence on the game

While admitting that he communicated with fade outside of game doesn't prove that they did anything to cheat or alter the outcome of the game. According to the rules, it's illegal to use outside methods to communicate with another player in the same game. Cheating - "Using outside methods to communicate with another player in the same game"

So technically, it may be cheating.
