Blind Vagina - also known as a blind vaginal pouch

A symptom of Congential Adrenal Hyperplasia. Caused by an inherited mutation in 11 or 21 alpha hydroxylase normally expressed in the adrenal cortex fasiculata and glomerulosa. Results in shunting of aldosterone and cortisol pathways into sex hormone synthesis. Due to the absence of Mullerian Inhibitory Factor, but expression of increased testosterone during fetal development, female neonates are born with ambiguous genitalia, for example a vagina ending in a blind pouch.
