It doesn't disturb me that this sort of logic has been implemented as policy. What disturbs me is that the moderators of this site, and I'm sure lucid as well, have sadly fallen victim to delusional thinking in which the concept of free speech is no longer important. This is how American principles die on the internet.

This is how you kill off basic human rights. It starts with the silencing of dissent.

It won't matter for a simple website like this. But I would like those of you who believe this is justified logic to seriously read the paragraph I quoted above.

This is not sound legal, judicial, rational, or any sort of logical thinking. There are already numerous avenues to prevent poor quality and vulgar/indecent content on the website.

This is a step not only too far, but a sign of the times.

I don't intend to change your minds. I only ask that each of you who actually believes this is rational, enlightened, evolved human thinking to take a serious step back, and question EVERYTHING you know.

Because this is literally evil.

The recent changes to the site have less to do with politics and more with ad revenue.

Oh, and four: I have no idea why people are suddenly upset about a rule that has existed for YEARS. No one has ever complained about it like this before. All we did was take the same exact rule, update it because we realized it had vague language, and begin enforcing it in games where it wasn't enforced before for some reason. We've been having issues with people talking about completely inappropriate things in games, which really distracts from the game at hand and leads to disruptive gameplay. The rule did not change. We've handed out IC violations for a long time. Just not in games where it desperately needed to be enforced.

Besides, I should also point out that this violation is seldom handed out anyway. Most people have never broken this rule because they know there are some things you just don't need to talk about on here (re: examples above).

Ok but real talk, if you're referring to the first amendment here that doesn't apply to anything on this website for several reasons.

One, the first amendment exists to protect you from the government limiting your right to free speech, to an extent - the Supreme Court has ruled in the past that speech that incites immediate lawlessness/anarchy is not legal. The first amendment absolutely does not protect you from other people limiting your speech on the internet and it doesn't protect you from the consequences of what you say. Every single website has its own policy about what speech is allowed and isn't allowed. This isn't a new thing.

Two, this rule doesn't exist to limit political opinions but merely to limit speech that is harmful to others. It's difficult to word the IC rule effectively because it covers a lot of different things and is subject to moderator discretion (just like every other rule is). We implemented this rule to get rid of discussion that just doesn't belong on this website. We've given people the violation for talking extensively about pedophilia, domestic abuse, fetishes/kinks, , those kinds of topics that aren't really appropriate for a mafia website. They can go somewhere else to talk about it.

Three, you keep talking about American freedom and principles and whatever. I mean, it does occur to you that at least half of regular players on here aren't even American, right? Why would they care about American principles? We don't make the rules to satisfy only Americans but everyone as a global community. We have to respect where everyone comes from. Being American doesn't make you more important than everyone else.

Remember when the Joker was doing silly tricks to bamboozle as a whimsical prankster? It seemed more marketable at the time to keep him censored and less murdery. Das all this is... the internet version of that. It will all change with the times.

Anyone believing this vitriolic censorship as practical, meaningful, or justified has potentially been corroded with evil, corrupt logic.

Cleanse yourself and start anew. Think fresh.

This ain't it, chief.
