SPOILERS AHEAD. DO NOT READ THIS THREAD IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIANCE THE GAME FOR YOURSELF WITHOUT KNOWING WHAT HAPPENS!
I will be doing a scene by scene review, because I was told to play it by the weeb god amelio, who slid into my dms as soon as he saw me playing it and after i told him I quit due to too much reading involved he insisited , insisted that I should persue the game until the end.
So in order to make this experiance more bearable for me I have decided to do a scene by scene more or less review!
i don't really know any games off the top of my head that deal with sexualizing girls ive only played fringe dating games in my life (read: Katawa Shoujo). i suspect its hard to deal with issues like sexualization of girls in anime/manga/dating sims because of the intended audience. its probably not going to go over well with most of the intended audiences for any of those things, as many will defend the existing tropes.
as for games that acknowledge they're in a game theyve been around for a long time, the original metal gear solid is the oldest example that comes to mind.
anybody who knows anything about ddlc (the vast majority of people who play it) knows that it's not actually a cute dating sim, i'm not even saying it's the greatest thing to happen to the horror genre or even calling it far above average but i don't think i'd call it a shock horror game even if it does have elements of shock in it

i dont hate undertale if i ever meme on it its just that, a meme. in reality i couldnt even beat the trash puppet dog in the sewer and gave up there. from what ive seen of the game, it looks like something i would really enjoy
i mean the first "horror" part of the game is a pic of a main character who hanged herself with Suprise! Ambience after fooling you into thinking its a cute dating sim game so yeah, shock horror. also a lot of the horror parts of the game (besides the occasional intentional glitching) rely on characters self harming themselves in order to deliver its "horror" aspect for no reason then "oh this yandere girl has power over everyone to make them do whatever they want lol". people like to say its delivering some kind of message but tbh all it really is is a shock horror game with some well delivered scenes and impressive visuals

can you point me to other games like this not asking to be contrarian at all its just that im not someone who knows stuff about video games and i like this concept and wanna see more of it maybe done even better lol so if you can point me to stuff with similar concepts it would benefit me greatly
yeah but ddlc doesn't really satirize the sexualization of girls in dating sims and the anime industry as a whole (and before I get a smartass response I know it's not japanese made but it clearly draws influence). in fact monika ends up being a textbook yandere obsessed with player, a trope we see not only often in this kind of media but also in a positive light. i hesitate to even refer to ddlc as a satire at all, it ends up being a game straight out of a poorly written creepypasta with some winks at the player that the characters know they are in a game. this really isn't anything new or innovative. in fact, without the presences of cute anime girls id imagine that it would be ignored as another indie game that crashes itself dramatically.
hm i never saw it like that but you might be right. i will give that critique some consideration, sleep on it maybe
personally i cling desperately to any piece of media that guises itself as even a bit existential and deep, even if its actually Fake Deep so i tend to completely ignore that kind of stuff lol, but like i said u make a very good point and are probably right
anyways the real problem with this game is that it uses issues of depression and self harm to increase its shock factor and guises itself as being Woke when in fact it's just a typical shock horror game (trope deconstruction aside)
