Banning users = MORE GT????????????

about 7 years

Most EM users are no-life losers who waste ungodly amounts of time on this website. This is particularly true of banned users - as active users are most likely to be banned (either fairly or unfairly). Do you think most banned users are just gonna take the ban and take a three month break from Epic Mafia?

No

hecken'

way.

When a user is banned, they bypass on , noavi, throaway alts that are unlinked to their main. Because these accounts are likely to be banned at any time and don't have many games/friends/kudos, there is no incentive to avoid getting vios. Therefore, these users often gamethrow, troll and grs for fun, and since their throw accounts are not linked to their main, they can go back to their alt once their ban expires.

Just unban them and give them a one vio leash so they're always on their toes.

this is probably true. Banning and bad reports in general lead to it. I have been so tempted after mods give me a vio that I dont deserve to just do stuff to actually get myself banned. I have not done it, but some do.

Another example is when the mods gave me forum spam as a joke, I actually spammed the forums intentionally after to earn the vio

You say bans mean nothing, I interpret we need better bans.

If you really want a cross-account solution, you should resort to what lucid tried to do by IP banning. He tried to ban users instead of accounts.

The problem with that, is that people can get around it easy. IP bans arn't common anymore not because anyone thinks user bans are a bad solution, but rather because its a bad implementation. You get IP banned, you use a VPN; simple bypass that made lucid give up his simple idea.

If he just blacklisted common VPNs ( many IP blacklists can be found online, updated timely ), bans will be more threatening ( since you cant remake said noavi ) - perhaps you could create a whole new criteria of banning, account ( what we had thus far ) vs. user ( all IP's user logged on from ).

Sure, that concept is far from perfect ( if someone has remote technological merit they can go to a cafe`.with a laptop ), but it limits general usage to the point where bans are meaningful.
