Anyone on EM know of any good Linux resources for getting started? I've run Linux before but kinda was only using it as a free operating system for my first POS laptop. Kind of a place holder until I could afford Windows.

If anyone knows of any good places to get started, I'd appreciate the support. I'm sure I can find all the resources I need on my own, but I'm confident that somebody more experienced than myself will know of a more efficient place to start than just googling 'how to linux.'

Thanks all!

get used to being on the terminal, navigating with bash, look stuff up using man, possibly learn vim while you're at it, and you'll pick up new tools as you go on. once you master the terminal, the skills are transferable to any distro, even to OS X (LUL), and the GUI will be a convenience rather than a crutch

all the CS lab machines at my college ran linux, and that was actually a cool way to force people to get used to it. sshing into a linux machine and having just the terminal is a great way to get used to the terminal

haha, definitely this. Using the terminal for everything feels so silly. Only fun i get out of it is saying "sudo-sesame"

P.S: you guys that like apple. sorry

liiiike what you looking for? An OS? If you have a good computer and planning on doing some 3d animations or whatever that would require a lot of resources I recommend getting the Ubuntu Studio. But staple wise just get regular Ubuntu LTS.

Mostly I'm looking into getting familiar with Unix and that's really the extent of it - I'm interested in penetration testing with Kali at some point down the line because it sounds incredibly fun, but I need a base level of experience first.

I'll be looking for resources on my own at this point, I just thought somebody on EM might know a good website focused on teaching those new with the OS.
