I read all thirteen books before I turned eleven, and I highly recommend the netflix series. Unlike the terrible movie, it captures the soul of the books.
The movie wasn't that terrible though. It's still worth a watch regardless.

I already binge watched the whole show. While Neil Patrikc Harris is great as Count Olaf, he won't replace Jim Carrey in my eyes (the rose-tinted nostalgia goggles for the movie are strong). Patrick Warburton is amazing as Lemony Snicket an I can't get enough of him. The child actors they got to play Claus and Violet are also pretty good for children.
