my command of the english language is pretty shaky but I got a score of 80% on my first try

I wouldn't say that recognizing a word is the same as "knowing" that word, least of all how to use it. I know "anorak" is an actual word but I'd be hard pressed to put it into a sentence at a moment's notice without a quick glance at a dictionary. this test doesn't make that distinction very clear. :/

while we're sharing vocab tests y'all could check out http://www.freerice.com . It's got quizzes on several subjects including vocabulary, and every time you answer correctly the site donates 10 grains of rice to the World Food Programme, funded through ad revenue.

There's probably much more efficient ways to give, but if you just want to test your vocab chops this place isn't a bad place to start.

i think "phonetic" or "etymological" test would be more accurate, the false words are incredibly obvious and if i picked words i didn't know but could have discerned to be english by structure i could likely have gotten upwards of 90%

they didnt do a very good job making english-sounding non-english words
