Why, Why Me?

almost 8 years

"Why me = Fry me"

But WHY is why me equal to fry me?

It's a saying generally among new players. Yes, I have seen scum ask this but usually when that happens the scum has coasted throughout the game and not given any stances/reads or attempted to scumhunt in any way shape or form. Concurrently, I've also seen townies ask the same question but the difference is that the town usually exhibited attempts at scumhunting. Thus showing that the term isn't massively scum motivated to ask and by no means a reliable alignment indicative factor.

This saying seems to be categorically incorporated in the book of scumtells-I fail to see the logic behind this. How is inciting discussion to elucidate on a read by asking why someone scumreads you equated to a scumtell?

My viewpoint is that it's crummy to attack based on this saying. If your case on someone is solely based on this then it's thin at best and porous as all-hell at worst.

'why me' is not the natural response to be being accused of something. It's the response given when you've been caught and want to know what you fked up.

You're all wrong, it's because the town doesn't have any good restaurants and everyone loves fried chicken.

Ohhhhhh gotcha.

I disagree with the first part though; town don't always get offended/annoyed when being fos'ed (they know scum could be pushing on them, so there's no reason for them to be annoyed at the opposite alignment scumreading them).

I find scum just as often as town, get genuinely annoyed at being fos'ed when they feel the reason for why they're being scumread is lackluster.

because the line shows a mental detachment between how a town would think and the actual state of the game.

a try-hard town would most likely feel offended or annoyed at being fos'd after they participated so much. they also have a built-in explanation for being pushed on: "they must be trying to get me lynched because they're mafia". mafia doesn't really have that kind of thinking because they feel like targets in the town majority and will try to blend in.

a lazy town that did jack often realizes why they're being fos'd and will say something like "yeah i know why people fos me. i coasted all game. still town tho"

i personally think the question can be legitimate if followed up by additional inquiries as in:

"why do you fos me?"

"because X, Y, and Z"

"I only did X because I thought A, but player W did Y and Z too yesterday so why don't you fos them?"

in which event id just dismiss the line entirely

its just a natural response for mafia to react quickly to being pushed on without much thought, and its usually not followed up by any constructive conversation on their part.

in the wise words of mr sherlock holmes - when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth

I made this because I'm curious. When I have some downtime, I'll make a thread relating to mathematical mechanics for common setups pro-bono.
