question of the day

over 8 years

when humanity inevitably migrates to other planets either because we screwed this one too bad or the sun starts exploding or we're just feeling adventurous, what will we take with us?

But cub, letting other humans start over on another planet as a last resort continues life in the universe as we know it.

While resetting it all would be depressing letting things start anew allows us to continue existing in the universe, even if the definition of us changes over time. Maybe they'll achieve greater, maybe they'll do even worse. But shouldn't we take that chance? Create their own history as a basis, struggle their own ways?

I'm mostly going into philosophy here but I think the greater question isn't should humanity continue if it can't retain it's history, but should we wipe our history when we move to a new world for a new start? Make Earth unknown origins, so if people lead better lives we do not have humanities dark history and origins forever hovering above their heads

the thing that keeps history from repeating itself is knowing what happened the first time

if we started over, not only would we lose everything effectively rendering all life up to that point meaningless, but we would learn nothing from our past which most logically leads to history repeating itself which accomplishes nothing

Probably some music.
It's gonna be a long trip to another planet.

btw we wouldn't be starting off like we would have in this world

since we'd have the right technology on our hands for migrating to other planets

The culture of that time lol :3

people of the future may have to make a choice between carrying on our history and what we define ourselves as human, or leave it behind to populate the stars and start anew

we lose who we were but we may make anew, spreading human existence throughout the star

I feel I've alluded to what my answer is, but it's something I doubt any of us have to choose in our lifetime.

is starting over ever a good idea in terms of humanity as a whole

you can always change direction at any point where you can start over, the only difference is losing everything youve built up to that point

the thought that even the best of our individual accomplishments won't be worth remembering is also depressing

lucky for us the sun exploding will be long after us humans have died out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also space travel is v difficult and definitely not possible with our current technology that also will not be happening anytime soon, even at the rate of exponential growth we are seeing O:

all we should be pondering instead is how we are gonna survive when the inevitable apocalypse happens :3c

without history, what good is maintaining the species? it becomes life for the sake of life and i think intelligent life exists for more; specifically, achievement

leaving that behind is leaving behind a part of ourselves
deletedover 8 years
If faced with with having to leave them behind we'll have to likely come to terms with that

is our physical proof of history worth more than our perseverance as a species?

humanity's goal is preservation like any animal

that's the reason we would leave this solar system: to continue existing and preferably continue advancing as well

what im most interested in is what we'll leave behind because clearly we won't preserve all of humanity's achievements so which ones will have been all for naught

not ideas but actual content, like sculptures and ancient relics that aren't as easily transported

will they be digitized as a form of preservation and what will fall to obscurity and what won't when the world is inevitably full to the brim with such artifacts

humanities' goal(some sort of manifesto as we spread through the universe)

well this is gonna be messy since there's no one objective goal of humanity

all the cats. all of them.
rather, we should just save the cats. send them on their way with lots of yummy food and water and toys and leave us here to rot.

A book explaining the brief history of humanity as well as humanities' goal(some sort of manifesto as we spread through the universe)

Virtual reality simulator in case hypersleep is too difficult or risky to pull off so to people traveling to distant stars they don't bore themselves to death in a spaceship

Also books on how to technologically progress, in case humans return to our roots of not knowing things and have to rebuild our progress from step 1, or in the case of us dying and aliens on a distant planet finding the books and use them to progress their own cultures
