The idea that the phrase black lives matter is controversial is laughable to me.
It is laughable to me how you use a strawman to make this sentence seem more plausible. Nobody, NOBODY in this thread is discussing whether the lives of black people matter. We are discussing the movement.
thats the perk of giving your group a righteous name: criticism misdirected towards the name instead of the group
if you don't like the patriot act you must not be a patriot etc
Both examples are wrong actually. Let me translate them into a typical BLM/ALM situation: 1) Black people die (that's the funeral part). 'Do you crash strangers' funerals shouting I TOO HAVE FELT LOSS' implies that no, white people don't come to other people's funerals shouting I TOO HAVE FELT LOSS. Which means that according to this man, white people cannot sympathize with black people's deaths. 2) I do not support the change of BLM to ALM but yes, I do support hindering research for certain types of cancer (*cough cough* breast cancer *cough cough*) so that the money can be given to other types.

also i think if you're not starting from the bottom, it's shaky ground on the top. that is, if you didn't build it yourself, you're more anxious of it. people don't like to be different

i think you're confusing irresponsibility with conviction
rich kids waste their parents' money because they dont understand its value. just because they're too sheltered to know the value of anything doesnt mean theyre some kind of altruistic martyrs; they're the last ones to put themselves on the line
money =/= self
no, that's not what i'm talking about. it's that everyone else thinks money can buy happiness, or proceed regardless in their procurement of wealth, but it's those rich kids with no old habits to die hard, and knowing the falsehood of money buying happiness, that really go for meaningful things.
of course maybe that's lessened in today's world, because it's more image than wealth now, i don't know
tbh blm is a valid idea given that there is a statistically demonstrable race bias in policing, the problem is just that the loudest voices in the movement are upper class privileged kids who dont really know hardship using it as an excuse to talk over people
is that why more whites are killed by police than blacks
are you really this mathematically deficient
lets say 100 white people commit a crime and 10 black people commit the same crime 10 white people are killed and 2 black people are killed
what's the likelihood of a white person being killed and a black person being killed

it's actually an interesting phenomenon that those born rich, rather than having had to work for it, have a real tendency to just throw it all away. it's those upper class kids that are the real revolutionaries in this world. they have the least sort of sensible instinct about them

you'd want to be kinda careful criticising those upper class kids. it ain't just an excuse to talk over people, it's a need for meaning. there's probably plenty of them willing to die for what they're preaching. see: the days of rage demonstrations

ok, here is some opinions on this. I almost never believe/like extremists. So I do think that black lives do matter. obviously, they do matter, they are the same any person in my eyes. But I don't think people should go really extreme with this, We had a sniper in Dallas shoot white police officers because he wanted to support BLM and thought the country was not agreeing with him. Extremists are never good but the actual thing is that there lives do matter.
ALL LIVES MATTER plain and simple. BLM is a group of crybabies who want black people to be held on a pedestal.
Oh man
did you really just post arthur chu expecting to be taken seriously

I like how this is worded so it can be interpreted as supporting or opposing the idea. Funny.
There are so many things wrong with the above twitter screen shot. First sentence comes off as him already putting a negative connotation of the the idea before he's even argued anything. So he's already appealing to peoples' ideas and believes and getting their support without really saying anything. Then he compares a social racial issue and movement with sorrow and mourning of a dead person; which is absolutely not comparable.
Then he compares the idea of equality of races to that of diseases. Of course there are other diseases too, Mr. Chu, but last I checked diseases weren't a racially repressed group. I don't think it's a very good comparison Mr. Chu, so I'll just stop there.
He uses, I forgot the persuasive or logically key word/technique he's using; but he's using really, really bad comparisons that will appeal to people that don't really think about the context and will just think at the bare minimum level.
And about the whole "Black lives matter" controversy, the intentions were good but execution poor. Anybody should be able to see and recognize that. Group needs to disperse and disassociate with the negative publicity, form a new organization and not be infamous.
