Anyway, what in your opinion are the reasons people choose names like McKaylee etc. and are you in support of this practice? Or would you like there to be a name policy which would allow people to choose names from a given list (as it is in Denmark if I'm not mistaken)?

if you give your kid a weird or tbh ghetto sounding name employers are gonna see it on job applications and not hire your kid
Regular names are boring but abnormal names can cause problems, especially in school as a child. If you want to be creative, pick something that can be easily spoken and sounds as natural as any other name.

I don't think names like McKaylee are necessarily bad, it's original and it sounds weird because it isn't common, but it isn't embarrassing. I met a kid a few weeks ago named Kale.. He was about 4 or 5 years old which is about the time when kale the food started to become popular.. That's embarrassing and I would never do something like that to my kid even if I was a super preachy vegan like Kale's parents.

im going to name my child after me or the child after my husband if it's a boy
Name the child what you want. Just know that it's your fault your kid is getting bullied in school because of your hipster child naming.

if i ever have children (and i'm pretty sure i don't want to) i want to give them relatively uncommon names. i don't want to name them christopher or michael or sarah or anything that's in the top ten most common names. but they're going to be real names, not any bs like nayvie or mckarty. those are stupid.
