Hey everybody,

I've got a little bit of a dilemma. I've got the chance to go to Anime Expo for the first two days (July 1st/2nd). My problem is that I would be going entirely solo as I'm a closet weeb and have no friends with similar interests, and definitely not on less than a week's notice.

Has anyone been in prior years? What was the experience like? I'm mainly worried about going solo and having 0 fun for 2 days, the costs of the Airbnb/AX ticket/bus back to SF would be somewhat hefty and it's organizationally a difficult endeavor so I'm pretty afraid of having a disappointing experience.

anyone happen to going to SuperCon in miami this weekend? i got free tickets for today so ill be there. hmu if so

Also now I get to take that $350 the excursion would have cost (Not counting food/misc purchases) and put it towards a trip to Japan or China or Europe instead and that sounds like a better option.

There was but it's about 3x more expensive than by bus and had the same organizational problem (Getting to/from the airport/bus stop)

I wound up deciding against it just because of the logistical difficulties of the whole endeavor+the solo nature. Next year I should be able to get several people to come with me so I'll do it then.

Also it's embarrassing to admit but a big factor was my hair. I really wanted to cut my hair since it was so long it was disgusting. If I wanted to go I wouldn't have been able to since it was the perfect length/color to cosplay as Hikaru from Hikaru no Go and cutting it before would have been a travesty. Now it's cut and nice again with 0 regrets.

Idk I've been to a bunch of anime conventions and I've only made 1 actual friend. It just depends if you're one of those outgoing Homestuck types vs. someone who's shy.

Just go to the panels and have fun and spend all ur $$$ in the vendors room lol.

This is way too hard of a choice, costs are fine and I'm pretty confident socially but it's really hard to do organizationally w/ the Airbnb/transportation to/from airport and AX and getting to the bus back to SF.

I need to decide sometime tonight though AHHHHHHHHHHHH

Yeah I agree with calvin. It has a really friendly atmosphere there. Also take a look at the event schedule and see if there is anything you wanna do while you are there on those days. So pretty much if you go and try to have a good time im sure you will

it's worth it, you'll make friends at the event even if you don't go there with anyone and you'll have a ton of fun.
