Forcing NL to stop Governor from overturning

Governor, can't OT, if NL is forced. So town needs to be aware of this. And mafia needs to take advantage when they have the chance.

Killing PRs night1

If you manage to pick all your mafia meetings before the 9-12 second mark and then unvote and the night has not ended, then you can get some information about who might be a PR. Then you will not be taking a guess, but rather an informed decision.

Coded claims

Develop your own codes in games such that they can be decoded only by you or the person you intend to send the information too. Codes are always handy. You can use it to claim later in the game. Your code should not be such that they are picked up by others and used against you. Use new codes.

Half claims (someone can give a better phrase)

Sometimes, you can claim in a way that most people think you are unccd, because the actual cop/oracle didn't know you claimed and might let you lead because he is too ignorant to understand why someone is hammering.

Pseudo slips

Many times, players say something that can be marked as a slip. If you believe that person is not on your team, then you have to put it forth as a slip. For example, if a town implies that they have mislynch, when it is known that there may or may not be a mislynch, then you need to take advantage of the situation.

Lynch on mylo if there is a gunsmith

Know when to not out your cop report

Know when to claim your role

Sometimes, mafia may try to keep you from claiming your role as doctor/gunsmith, so that they can counter claim you later to avoid autoloss.

Mafia meeting codes

If you need to out a stalk code or a read during the day when you are getting lynched, you can use a code that you have set up in the mafia meeting.

Additions by other users

Zhuorb

If there are a lot of noobs in the table you can claim PR to hammer(doesn't matter what your alignment is), no one's gonna ask you to hardclaim

Becomeclear

Pretend you're the boss even when you're not (this often makes people trust you more and you often get reactions from players that you can easily pin to alignment)

Cody

If a player indicates that he wanted the game to veg before either side had an advantage, I typically see it as reflecting a mafia mindset. This is because it takes more effort to blend in as mafia and fake a genuine town thought process than to just be town. The cognitive dissonance generated by faking your game builds up psychological stress that sometimes "slips" out in the form of wanting the game to veg.

harodihg

no matter who died n1 say you would never n1 said person and metaclear yourself

(this puts a subconscious thought in other user's mind. If not everybody, then at least one of them may stick to it and it might be useful later in the game. However, if you repeat this with the same people, it will be useuless)

Rydia

become a formidable player by doing the following:

1) Ignore all questions 2) Pretend nobody is currently voting for you 3) When ccing as mafia pretend the cop isn't speaking 4) talk about the weather and/or food you have recently eaten 5) lynch the one who brings up old sh*t 6) those who find scumslips in everything are probably scum themselves 7) lynch anybody who uses the acronym "OMGUS" on principle 8) try to forget who your mafia partner(s) are as soon as day 1 happens 9) do not do what anybody tells you to do 10) and do not unvote if somebody demands you do so if it is not kicktime

Examples

I request others to share examples of the listed tricks/strategies and to add new tricks with examples as well.

I believe

That you can play the game even without using these tricks, but it doesn't hurt to have aces with you. Sometimes, you may be overdoing it or putting yourself in a bad situation by using these tricks when not required. If you are in a good situation already, just take advantage of it.

@mindful- claiming and retracting roles is a small part of various plays that includes roleswaps/ fake roleswaps/ hiding your own role/ keeping someone from claiming/ getting townread, etc. So i dont think putting it up there will help. It will just create a biased sitewide meta

@harodihg-

the self voting thing is highly subjective. Remember how you got lynched as doc (and you were my inno as well, yet i took you for scum). You need to pick your moves depending on who the guy with the hammer is.
deletedalmost 10 years
in sheriff setup, if cop outs d1, cc them and then retract on either side, trying to get town to TR you for trying to "save" cop
deletedalmost 10 years
Tip 3) NEVER self vote for someone else to hammer. People will town read you for making the game difficult because it is towny to not want an easy win.

@cody- thanks, but that is the basic thing. We always need to think about people's motivations. Most people just dismiss them by use of the acronym wifom (most incorrectly used acronym). Please share specifics. For example, what action could be read as what.

OK, here's one actual read that I usually at least mention in games.

@transcend- i dont see any need to reiterate what is already listed when you are not adding anything to it. It would be good if you gave an explanation good enough to people to never reconsider it ever again.

thanks becomeclear- nice tip- added to the list

"Lynch on mylo if there is a gunsmith"

people need to legitimately always do this no matter what.

I think reading into people's mindsets and examining the motivations and payoffs for the actions they take as either alignment can be very rewarding. Most of the time if player X took an action that makes more sense / benefits him more as mafia than it would as town, then player X has a greater chance of being mafia.

that'd be true if people here knew how to play to their wincon

@johnreid- have you ever thought in a game that if the noob who has hammer understood your logic, how much better it would be for you to win the game? They will understand better when they know about it.

@harodihg- Incorrect- sommetimes, you need to get lynched in order to win the game.

come on dude. When you share tricks, you get better. When ideas bounce, they evolve and you get better ideas. For example, I just learnt a new trick from zhuorb that is going to do wonders when I play on alts that people don't know are me.

True high level players wont share their tricks because then they become obvious players.
