Studying games?

deletedover 9 years

Does anyone feel like it's a good idea to read lots of other peoples competitive games? Even if you just end up playing ranked, or even unranked.. it can help your personal headspace to understand some of the stranger parts of the game. I mean, in competitive a lobby, lots of people throw up a vote on a random player. They just sit there, and watch his various reactions. If I casually go about that in ranked, almost every player will accuse me of rushing my votes, and find me to be 'mafia'. But in a competitive game, they'd understand what i'm doing most of the time, and it would just casually play out as a mechanic in the game. I mean, in general, just seeing these setups in play and various interactions will build your natural tuition and ability to read.

My goal is to read 300 Competitive games, then find the top 5 winners and review 20 of each of their games. Then when the new round starts, i'll read games for each setup a bit before starting myself, and I think I could probably land a few trophies.

You guys should try it! We could genuinely just push the meta of the game and do some crazy plays!

LastProphet says

no. winning games is based off a few simple laws.

1. If you are likes, people will follow you

2. If you hurt peoples feelings, they won't like you

3. Probability theory accurately proves that scum hunting doesn't work

When I first started playing comp I reread everyone of my games. I also read games of players whom I considered good. It's a good way to pick up some new techniques or strategies. In the end, the best way to get better is to play a lot of games. Turns out people get good at things they spend time on.
