i really loved whiplash and birdman was cool but yea not a lot of standouts last year

i went to see midnight special in the theatre yesterday thinking i stumbled on some cool film but it was kind of lame. fine acting though especially by adam driver (fun fact he says "red saber" in the movie weee)

I don't think I've ever watched a film at the cinema that's ranked in my top 10 favourite films and that really depresses me

i'm not sure whether it's just because my favourite films all hold cult status and I knew this before watching them (and most of them did badly at the box office) or if films are just getting progressively worse

studios are taking a lot less risks but there's still cool stuff coming out. last year was pretty bad but before that we had birdman and whiplash
