I feel like that first episode didn't really go anywhere.. like nothing really exciting or interesting happened. melisandre's bit at the end was interesting but it's kinda transparent what the intention of that was

tl;dr hard to get everyone back on the ship with 5 seasons of material to rehash in one episode

i think people are getting too worked up on this. it was one less than great season (which was still good, just not game of thrones level great). just one. i'm pretty sure they learned and are going to give us a great season. no doubt

we'll see, dude. we'll see... im going to keep my expectations low, so that no matter what it is enjoyable, since im def watching anyway...

but i wouldnt be surprised if they shaft us with a bad story after that whole subplot where jaime goes to 'rescue' his daughter

they'll be fine, i don't blame last season's suckiness on divergence from the books. they've done extrememly well on that front in earlier seasons

i just hope the GoT tv writing crew can handle the mantle they've assumed by constructing the story w/o the book to adapt from... if the last season was any indicator, whenever they strongly diverge from the adaptation of the book, the dialogue and plot seem to waiver considerably in quality

notable exception being the big battle in the north
