Besides, back in the glory days of RTS gaming, Warcraft III and Starcraft Brood War had throngs of maphackers, yet legitimate players were more than happy to compete whilst being made aware of this.

Just because a few people play illegitimately, it doesn't mean that it completely ruins a game on a competitive level.

Bit by bit, the cheaters get filtered out through tribunal punishment.

the difference is you can recognise a hacker through their actions

Then prevent people from queuing into games with their friends where competitive play is concerned. If you think this will discourage people from playing competitive altogether, then the solution is simple; reward competitive achievers with unique account modifications.

Bae asked me if I was cheating

This is stupid

Unlawfully banned on 8/21/2013. I legitimately trophy run and get banned for 3 "supposedly" suspicious games based completely around conjecture and bias. Congratulations on banning someone innocent Sachy, you're a truly upstanding admin.

In my hypothetical where I am funding a competitive mafia site dedicated solely to competitive mafia, I wouldn't much care if someone were wrongfully banned. It happens.

And ice blatantly lies and sustains my appeal. Lovely

Excuse me, but we finished talking about that.

Competitive mafia itself a brilliant idea, easily workable, and begging to be marketed. Mafia is one of the most popular games of all time. Use an SEO tool to find out just how marketable it is, if you'd like.

This website itself is doomed, but not because of competitive mafia. It's doomed because it's run by volunteers more interested in making friends than in the game, and Lucid does not consider it to be any more than a niche site he owns for some modest passive income.

because, you know, the moderators are never wrong when they ban someone for cheating.

you could probably break IRL mafia as well with pre-defined secret meta words that only you and your budd(y/ies) can recognise

Right, actual competitive mafia is impossible because cheating on this website is not a serious violation, and easy to forgive. In my hypothetical, once a cheater is caught (using the same methodology you guys use here) they would be gone forever.

sure sounds like a surefire way to keep business a boomin'

team oriented games are 1 team vs another team

And the teams are built up of players who have never met before.

i mean, look at EM. we're cheating for trophies with no value. imagine if there was value to them, such as a rank system

That's why you have a system put in place where you are separated through ELO and are not able to play with friends in competitive games.
