I currently have a job offer to work for 6 months on a cruise ship as a sound engineer for entertainment. The job is decent pay, accomodation, breafast, lunch and dinner included and use of ship facilities such as the gym and library. I'd also be able to have time to explore the places we stop off.

The downsides that obviously I wouldn't be able to leave the boat for 6 months other than the designated time on shore as I'm contracted to work 7 days a week during the contract, I'd have to share a cabin with another engineer and they tend to be 40+ year old guys, internet isn't included so I would have to pay a per minute fee to use it and there is no phone signal so I wouldn't be able to regularly speak to my gf.

Should I go for it or not?

They finally asked me to confirm availabilty and I said early Feb to give myself more time. If I haven't got a relevant job to my degree by then I am going to take the job.

Being away from the internet for 6 months and not having access to junk food actually might do me some good.

If I was where I was 2 years ago right now I would take the job without hesitation as it seems like a good experience to try if I had nothing else going on in my life, but as it stands I have a house contract that goes until August and got a kitten in November.

Or take ur GF with you :D

To keep her on the cruise for 6 months would prolly cost my entire pay during the period. haha

Tbh if i didnt have a gf i wouldnt hesistate to take the job, im assuming expenses are little to none and having a lump sum savings of 6 months of work is pretty significant.

No, why go on a cruise ship where you're secluded from everyone you know including your girlfriend to live with 40+ year old men?

Money and to build my engineering portfolio.

You listed almost all negatives though in your post I think you already know your answer - seriously though you'll have other opportunities that don't effectively remove you from your life for half a year.

The issue is that I finished uni back in May and I've been working retail jobs since, this is the first sucessful full time interview for the field I'm looking to work in and I'm kind of sick of being paid nothing and putting my all into cleaning tables. haha

6 months of moderately sparse contact doesn't kill a relationship unless it was gonna die anyway, imo

Entirely depends on the people. 6 months LDR is a test for even the most stable relationships I think.

Especially if you can't talk regularly.

Maybe see if you can haggle them into giving you free internet access at all times or something? idkkkkk

that sounds harsh for 6 months

No . Put your girlfriend before your job. Family before a freaking job please . You can find another job . You can't find another girlfriend like her plus you will miss her . Don't do it.

Sounds like a lot of living to pass up in favor of internet connection.
