So I recently tried out something I found online and I figured, "Hey, let's make myself a nekomimi." because I love cats and nya, you know? Anyways, I tried drawing something based off multiple anime pictures of nekomimis, but I feel like I can improve. For starters, the shading it super off. I just used any color relatively close to brown and some of the fancy brushes on this app on my tablet. It's looks like poop. It's my fourth day on this drawing, so I could really use some critiques. Helpful ones. I'm not amazing at drawing, but it kills time and helps me relax, so please help. Thanks~~
Well realistically, it would go from jaw line (assuming the character is looking straight.) For anime style, it would be at least half way to the jaw line.(depends on how wide jaw is). This is how i do it, it looks awkward to me otherwise. Females may have smaller necks. From a side view, it would go from the ear to around the chin. It depends on your style :)

How would you determine the width of the neck? Just curious n_n I'm not good at drawing bodies.
im no professor but i dont think anime is a good way to learn to draw because you're learning a style more than art in general and then when you try to draw something that isn't anime it either winds up anime or as if it was your first time drawing
also it won't stand out because the anime market is oversaturated
really the moral of the story is anime is crap
I agree, Realistic sets a really good foundation to literally everything. Would do more realistic. Or at least a comicy style since its closer to realistic. Also neck could be bigger but really good c:

hey wow that looks so very very cute i love it ! & nya, you know? i think your drawing is adorable so please do not take any of my critiques as derogatory or mean, but i would love to help in any way that i can !0:<
first off, the shading is decent, but if u consider the light source in this image (which seems to be fairly high up), having highlights directly next to the darkest shadows at the top appears a lil unnatural even by anime standards. also, because your shading on her hair is so dramatic, it makes the shading on her face look a bit washed out/pallid. a bit more contrast in the way u shade the face would make this pic more striking imo!
she does not have a mouth, which even in a hyperstylized animu style, is a lil funny maybe ? that could also just be my personal preference tho. i think adding even a little nondescript line-mouth could add a lot of emotion and character .
1 last thing: the structure of her face is so so cute, but the lines are just a little unstable looking . as u get more practice using your tablet that will improve on its own though! i think they key to steady lines is to be bold and not second guess urself when u make a stroke !!!
all in all, this picture is very adorable . keep on drawing and i would love to see more kawoi neko gals from u in the future :[)
omg peachchan~~ Arigatou!! Sorry, it's an unfinished picture and yes! My lines are crazy unsteady. I have an update though! Also...the body is really hard to draw. Tasukete ;~; nya.

well I could draw other things (more realistic things), but I figured anime is a way to kill time. I do get where you're coming from though. Do you have any advice on shading, perhaps? How to pick out the perfect color for reflection of eye, hair, etc.? Thanks, cub. :3c
