If you had the chance to visit North Korea would you do it? I have always believed that visiting a country like North Korea is almost impossible but I found out that there are many tourist agencies that actually take trips there. Personally I am really intrigued and I would totally do it but I don't want to take any serious risk. I mean there are special rules which need to be obeyed in order to travel there: 1) you are not allowed to travel alone 2) you're not allowed to make fun or criticize their massmedia and regime. Those are the most important ones. The thing that I wanna know, and I realize this sounds stupid, but has anyone been there? Like is it worth taking the risk? I am really curious to find out more about their habits and routine(if all the western propaganda is true). This is purely hypothetical and I asked many people here but I want to know opinions from the outside (especially since most of the site's community lives in the states and with all the existing hatred for North Korea, your opinions might differ to a certain point).
You realise that bowing and laying flowers are completely secular activities, ESPECIALLY in North Korea where the state is by default atheist.

I would love to go, except that part of the tour you're normally required to lay flowers/bow down to the statues of Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung, which due to religious reasons I wouldn't be prepared to do...
If they removed that part of the tour, then that'd be great.
i wouldn't travel there myself, but i have extended family who have relatives that live in north korea and have traveled there to visit them. although what youre talking about (having tourist agencies arrange your trip) is a completely different process from that of my extended family since it was arranged by the nk and sk gover’nt and they were only allowed to visit for a few hours. their trip required a shitton of money on my family's part just to see them for a mere 1-2 hours, and they weren't allowed to have any kind of physical interaction.
i remember watching a few documentaries on people who have traveled to north korea through those travel agencies. just don't expect to gain insight on the actual lives of north Korean citizens when visiting nk since the trip is organized in a way that restricts you from learning anything but propaganda. if ure interested in learning abt their "habits and routine" i would look into the stories of north korean defectors instead
I'd go purely to satisfy any curiosity I had about the country and how it operates in reality, rather than just getting accounts and reports from the media/other sources.

I'd do it; I love travelling. I know a couple of people who have been who said it was really nice and actually not all that different to non-urban South Korea. They have their own intranet and stuff, and their beer is apparently really good.
