this would've been a good bait thread if you understood the difference between religion and spirituality.

I'm bored so I'm gonna try and answer this question seriously:

If we're talking about the major religions ie: Christianity, Islam, Hinduism then animals can not experience religion. By that I mean that you can't have a "Christian Dog" or a Panda that worships Allah. I don't believe that they have the intellectual capabilities to do so.

If you wanna get into Christian theology, we can assume that animals can not experience religion because God (strangely) declares that animals are "lesser beings" or rather that humans have domain over animals. The purpose of animals, the Bible says, is so that they can be killed and eaten primarily. God also demands animal sacrifices in the Old Testament as penance for sin, meaning that probably close to millions of animals were sacrificed before the New Testament events happened. If animals were capable of experiencing God, I don't believe that God would set them off to be killed so quick.

Interestingly, the Bible does show that animals can be used as catalysts for bigger events, though. A donkey is "possessed" by the holy spirit or gains the ability to speak, and delivers an inspiring message, a wicked serpent deceives Adam and Eve, etc etc.

All of the above is of course assuming that the Bible is true, which is always up for debate but in this hypothetical I'm assuming that it is.

If you define "spirituality" as super strong beautiful emotional experiences, then it is possible.

did u guys know that, say, the more downtrodden in humanity are more likely to be religious (or, perhaps, given certain circumstances, at least)? take how soulful the black church is, for example. or people with disabilities are also generally quite religious.

But to believe in atheism is to believe that the world was created solely by two atoms colliding millions of years ago, but what created those atoms lol

Dogs can learn how to sit by being rewarded with some sort of treat when they do the right movements, and they learn based off of that. I guess you could reward a dog by obeying the commandments but the dog would not understand and will not be able to comprehend religion.

so are monotheistic religions the only kind of religion?

I apologize, with my lack of sleep I had a very linear way of thinking. I was saying dogs cannot learn Christianity or Judaism or other Biblical religions, I did not speak of Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, or other religions. Sorry to anybody whom I offended.

religion is a notion which appeases unspoken, pretty much inherent concerns. hardly anyone knows why they're actually religious. just because animals can't formalise spirituality doesn't mean it doesn't exist in them.
