he wanted to be loved by his father, so he did what his father wanted, which was to invade the north. This led him to want to be accepted by his father, so he went the extra mile and tried to capture winter fell.


his need for acceptance was the catalyst for his betrayal (if you would even call it that since he owed no allegiance to the Starks). But at the very base of that need for acceptance was his father who wouldn't give it.
