Yeah, I can agree with that. I mean, I play video games, so I guess I'm a gamer but it seems like a really useless label.
I don't think so. You can make a pretty fair critique over the portrayal of woman in a lot of video games, but even if the critiques were incredibly stupid, people should still be allowed to criticize them as much as they want. I think that a lot of the gamergate thing is people caring way too much about whether or not someone critiques the video game industry and reacting terribly.
That being said though, there are probably better things to worry about than how woman are portrayed in some video games.

video games are ok but i think gamer is a gross self-label in the same way that i think drugs are okay but think less of people that think of themselves as stoners

I tried reading up on the controversy in an attempt to understand it but I came out really confused and annoyed. It seems to be like a bunch of different people are fighting a bunch of different issues at once and calling it the same thing. And by fighting, I mean either posting angrily on the internet or doxxing those who they perceive as at threat.
