Is anyone a member of Phi Alpha Theta? My history professor told me about it today and said he wants me to attend the meetings until I can apply (I will have finished 3 history courses in late May and I need to finish 4 in order to apply)
I looked into it a little and the scholarship opportunities and connections in the work force look like sweet incentives, but if they don't actually deliver I don't want to waste my time attending the meetings (which include additional history lectures)
wtf this must be the only instance in which both are correct?
pls i need to know if there are more scenarios like this now
also yes, you should always join applied societies. those are GREAT for your resume and even better for your future beyond college (ie networking outside of campus)
whether or not this one in particular is up to code, idk, but i would go yourself and find out and not trust EM's opinion

I would tl;dr but I'm on my phone so I'm just gonna mention it's not worth it.
@Zedd, it only helps with networking if you're willing to use it as a networking tool. If you're using it as letters to put on a resume, it means very very little.
What do you want to do with your life? Societies are mostly a waste of time unless you exploit them for all their worth in terms of networking. Besides that, it does nothing for your resume.
