read any good books lately?
What was the last book you've read or are currently reading?
Currently I am reading "The World America Made" By Robert Kagan. So far he is talking about how Obama will bring the country down and how America shaped Democracy. Pretty interesting book so far.
I am also currently reading "The Satanic Bible" By Anton LaVey... not really a bible but more of a Philosophy I suppose.
Tell me what books you're reading or would like to read! (:
Ah, yes, I have recently been quenching my existential thirst with some criminally underrated classics. And of course I've been perusing some feminist literature from the Harlem Renaissance (#likeagirl).
Mmm but yes it's all so drab. Gaw. I haven't found anything in ages to suitably match my intellect...something that has that...je ne s'ai quoi? I will continue my quest, I hope, not in vain...
Ecclesiastes is a book rich with poetry and philosophy. I've read a fair amount of the Bible throughout my life although not all, and Ecclesiastes is easily my favorite book next to the Book of Job.
If you don't want philosophy as main topic in your readings. I'd highly recomend Dostoievsky who is my fave author.
Goethe and Machado de Assis are amazing too but I sugest reading those on the original language since they are full of native idiosyncrasy. If you can't, find a book with a well known translator (and full of notes).
If you want philosophy and theology, avoid satanic . 90% of it is just atheism butthurt. (10% do serious theology study).
I'd suggest going into the father of existentialism which is Kierkegaard. He's mostly known for criticizing Hegel but I love his work on despair concept.
Also if you want to break your mind with pure philosophy, read the book Ecclesiastes from The Bible! All the poetic books from The Bible are a must read if you like ocidental philosophy.
Need to start Desert God by Wilbur Smith - have loved all the other Egypt books he's done. Top class author.

Stephen King is looked down upon because generally he writes really good books with really poor endings.
And if you try to defend him, go read the entire Dark Tower series, love books 2/3/4/5, be unimpressed by 1 and 6, then love the first half of 7, read the second half, then come crawling back to me to die.
I don't know of Stephen King as anything but respected. People tend only to have positive things to say about his work and I imagine those who don't are either simply reading a genre they're disinterested in and basing their impressions on that or just snooty wankers.
He's not known as a "respected" author in many circles because he writes horror novels that tend to be pretty outlandish. The guy is a super amazing writer though and he's capable of writing stories with a huge amount of poignancy.
I've enjoyed Stephen King for a long time, tbh. A friend of mine actually gave me a HUGE box of old Stephen King books, probably like 28. I've bought several more, so I probably have like 35 Stephen King books in my collection overall. I'm slowly trying to get them all. Someday I'll get around to reading them!
