Games needed to play ranked

about 10 years

Just been in a really shocking game that was lost because town was so inexperienced. There should be some larger amount than 4-5 games so new players don't have to ruin it for others (and gain more experience).

Sorry about poll mistake, doesn't let me change it :(

What should the amount of games needed to play unranked before a player can be ranked be?

I learned how to play in unranked, and I almost never see game throws in the main lobby (sanbox not so much)

People saying you don't learn a thing from unranked I'd have to disagree with. I think this is a pretty good idea, and we're better off with this then right now.

Imagine playing a two-hour tutorial, getting really psyched to play an actual game of mafia, and end up getting tossed in to a game with 4 or 5 different people like bogut who just sit there and rage for 3 days straight. I'd be furious.

optimal solution: red heart games unlocked from jump street, ~2 hour "competitive tutorial" before being able to play comp that you can do whenever the hell you feel like it

doesn't hamstring casuals, hamstrings people trying to create alts for comp a hell of a lot less than grinding red hearts, ensures that everyone jumping into comp is serious enough to at least have all the game mechanics put in front of them

I think that would actually be really interesting to see play out, and honestly I agree that it would be the ideal route. But I also think people would scoff at the idea of having to play hours worth of tutorials just so they can play out their gold hearts.

honestly some sort of in-depth tutorial (like, actual tutorial, not youtube video) would be 100x more effective than playing fancy pants to 1500 points, but let's be honest here no one actually wants to spend the time to make that

I wonder how often a new player playing their first few ranked games gets reported because they didn't do something like blindly follow a clear who's been tunneling them all game.

i played vdli with sachy and some new player like 2 weeks ago

i was calmly explaining the setup and game mechanics to him day 1, and then the clear (bogut, because of course it was bogut) freaks out and starts caps spamming about the new player not blindly sheeping him when said new player didnt even understand why bogut was clear, and flipped the lynch from scum to the new player because "he's faking it". when wrong, he proceeded to crap on the new guy in the graveyard for 10 minutes.

then me sand sachy said we'd help find him a mentor and couldn't, because the mentor system is broken

You don't learn a thing in unranked, yet you should play a large number of those games, in order to learn how the game works

if people were more helpful instead of jumping down every new player's throat it might be a different story

been tried before, always dies out because of inactivity.

How about a newbie lobby.

This is the same as increasing the amount of ranked games for competitive. Learning how mafia is played is essentially done in comp/ranked and definitely not in unranked because that's the place where everyone trolls.

That's why the mentoring program exists (not that it's been helpful at all lately), but yeah, EM needs a more newbie-friendly environment that definitely does not exist in both ranked and unranked. Increasing the amount of unranked games won't solve this problem.
