Because I only have about a hundred better things to do, I shall now present my ranking of every role in EpicMafia dot com. Each ranking will be accompanied by an exciting write-up about the role. Gosh, isn't this amazing?
Note: I will mostly rank these by how much I enjoy them in Sandbox, with a couple exceptions. This is the sandbox forums, deal with it.
Favorite role that doesn't exist (but should, of course)?
in fact I'm going to disagree with every analysis you've posted just for the sake of argument and call it
Foxe's So-so Rebuttal of Guilty's So-and-so
132. Clockmaker Clockmaker can actually kill himself, which I've managed to do at least once. This should serve as a balancing mechanic, however it does need tweaking: killing yourself essentially requires you to kill all 3 mafia, so you basically carry out the most effective vigilante justice possible then commit suicide because you did so well.
As a concept, cockmaker is a fine and interesting twist on killer and combats killer's advantage of having an admirer (you don't consider this when you only play 2 3rds closed, but admirer+killer form a joint). It does need tweaking, but it's far from the worst role. It sucks clock but it isn't a lost cause. It's just in the wrong timezone.
131. Zombie Another case of 3rd party discrimination: You assume that because zombie rarely rolls with cult or doctors in 2 3rds closed that zombie is an unstoppable force unless luck would have it there's a doctor, but zombies are actually counterbalanced by the presence of a cult, which if bitten would kill all zombies (without converting the cult).
Zombie isn't a role created for closed role setups, that's obvious. Zombie is a role that can be played quite well, however, in standard setups built around it. I actually have made one such setup, played about three full games with it with people genuinely playing, and it worked out great -- even without a cult to counterbalance them (there were doctors/nurse instead).
Zombie is a great role for standard setups, however it is not well suited for closed role.
papa is a genuinely good role now that it's fixed; it lets mafia find a town pr without clearing them to town (so town can't know to protect them if they haven't outed, which the most important ones will never do). it's a good way to turn a lynch into something beneficial for mafia and, like terrorist, is the kind of role you'd want leading kills if there's no ninja to take the fall since it can fall gracefully.
123. Enforcer Lucid opened his e-mail one day to find several pieces of hatemail from the most upstanding EM users, such as users CoryInDaHouse and snowday. Confused, he began reading them carefully. He soon realized they were upset it wasn't possible to troll the Yakuza role more. "There needs to be a way for the mafia to stop the yakuza from acting!", the e-mails demanded. Lucid gave it some thought and created the Enforcer.
Enforcer seems to be one of the early roles that were created because a mafia counterpart to everything is necessary. I can imagine the creative team being something like... Guy A: I really like this shrink role, it's amazing. Guy B: Yeah, I wish the mafia could experience the joy of turning killers into survivors and stopping masons. Guy A: ...Are you thinking what I'm thinking? Guy: B: ... Guy A: ... Guy B: ayyyyyy Guy A: ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy Lucid: ayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Verdict: Legend has it Enforcer was named because Lucid had to torture the users and force them to play as the role to beta test it. Many no avis died in the process.
tl;dr Guy A: What if there was a mafia role that automatically wins when lynched? Guy B: You mean like a Fool, except it's mafia? Guy A: Yeah! We can call it... Joker! Guy B: Hahahaha... get real, dude. Lucid: ...ayyyyyyyyyy ;) Guy A: I-I was joking, L-Lucid... Please... Lucid: AYYYYYYYYYYYYY
124. Paparazzi Lucid had been sitting by the phone the entire day, gazing at it anxiously. He had just created a new role and expected soon for calls of several important news media to interview him about it. He hadn't eaten and had pissed his pants twice already. Just as he thought the poop was gonna come, he saw a strong flash from outside his home. He ran to the window and saw a group of Japanese tourists taking pictures. "T-They must be... taking... pictures of me..." The phone call never happened.
The only good thing about this role is that you can sing Lady Gaga lyrics to your mafia partners and have a few laughs about how much of a complete tool you are.
Verdict: When your role's best setup potential is with Civilian, you know you suck.
tl;dr: i'm your biggest faaaan, i'll follow you until you delete this role.
Civilian can somehow still be turned into something mildly interesting in dedicated set-ups. Multiple civilians and protective roles, as well as whatever people choose to do to conceal the identity of the civilian, has *some* potential. Clockmaker is just broken and lightkeeper is a complete waste of time. At least civilian has the decency to admit it sucks and end the game with it, lightkeeper makes you go through a torturous day.
I mean, all these roles still suck, so it's not like I'm defending civilian from being a complete mess.
@Viata: I would have a very hard time making fun of lucid right now if that had happened. Thankfully, it did not, and the world restores its natural order.
125. Civilian Realizing coffee was not an option, lucid crouched on the floor. How could this be happening? How many users would he ban? Why had error kicked him!? He was reaching fetal position and dialing his mom's number when an idea occurred to him. Why, he would merely have to switch over to tea just this once. He stood up, took a deep breath, did a fabulous "I'm over it" pose, took a couple selfies, and opened the cabinet again. #whatdoesntkillyoumakesyoustronger, he uploaded to his instagram. He reached for the box in which he usually kept the tea and opened it with a smile. His expression changed all too suddenly at the sight of a pink, heart-shaped post-it note at the bottom of the empty box. "i said raise ur donger ayy" Civilian was created soon after, though whether it was a consequence of the previous events is not clear.
Gosh, wouldn't it be just jolly if the town's outcome relied on a single person?
Verdict: No, it wouldn't.
tl;dr: Alcoholism took a sharp increase right after civilian was created in many cities in the world. Coincidence? I think not.
126. Suspect Lucid woke up one fine morning. The sun was bright, and he could hear the birds tweeting joyfully outside his window. He headed to the kitchen for a cup of coffee, but opened the kitchen cabinet to find it missing coffee altogether. His heart skipped a beat. Who could be responsible of this atrocious crime!? As he panicked, he closed the cabinet to find a Post-It Note on it. "i took your coffee ahuehue ahuehue raise ur donger" He was mad. He sat on his computer, looked at the list of suggested roles, and decided to create the worst of them all.
Someone please remind me why this role exists. Like, miller, I can understand. It's a cool role. It dies and creates confusion. But the suspect seems like a handicap that nobody asked for. I don't even have anything overly negative to say about this thing, it's just boring. Nobody asked for this. Nobody wants this. To think we could be having alligators instead!
Verdict: I suspect this role sucks.
tl;dr: suspect is miller on easy mode and it's bad
