Hello. A select bit of mods have been deliberating for a while on how to improve the forum experience, and we've discussed the idea of implementing Forum Rules. This is something that we want to include the community in, so your feedback/opinions are worthwhile.

Here's a rough draft for what we have in mind.

  • Every subforum that isnt OT is going to be moderated more heavily for off-topic posts, and moderators will reserve the right to delete your post. Don't ruin threads with your banter, go to OT for that.

  • We're going to try and be harder about flaming/harassment on the forums. We want to try and make the place more friendly and while it might be a bit of a change we're asking that you be patient with us and what we have in mind is merely things to be discussed.

  • Negative and constructive criticism is fine. We're not going to silence your opinion for disagreeing or being abrasive, just never make it personal. That's all we ask. We understand that mafia is a competitive game at it's nature and that things are bound to get heated, but that doesn't mean we have to let things get out of control.

  • Trolling will be treated as the same as trolling in-game. A user has a right to report you if he believes that you are trolling them or their thread. Punishments will be handed out accordingly after we readjust what the repercussions will be for forum trolling.

  • OT will be moderated lightly, and GD will be at the discretion of the person making the topic. All rules are going to be in effect for all other subforums.

All mods reserve to delete your posts if they are off-topic.

well, bill, the 4/5 rude/mean people on the forums

wait hold on do you seriously believe that more specificity in the rules will lead to MORE problems?

who exactly is loophole exploiting around here since cirno and utahraptor were forum banned?
deletedover 10 years
Because, as Connor noted somewhere, the tighter the definitions the more people will find and exploit loopholes.

i'd like to believe they won't do that, but as per their given ruleset they will be. why leave the ambiguity? why not just say "we're going to take complaints and suggestions more seriously when it comes to off-topic discussion" and leave the rest of the forums alone?

I'm pretty sure they won't beef uo the modding of Food and Drink

I'm pretty sure they won't beef uo the modding of Food and Drink seeing as pretty much every single thread in it is a joke thread anyway. I think it's mostly for decent suggestion threads in EpicMafia and serious topics in General Discussion.

As for the bringing new people to the forums... well, it is pretty idealistic.

the issues w/r/t the jericho thread could be addressed by more strictly moderating the complaints forum, which i don't think anyone would disagree with as the circlejerking would just move back to EM or general discussion or OT where it was previously. i don't see the need to beef up moderation on the food and drink forum to accomplish a much lesser goal

i feel it's incredibly disingenuous to suggest that these changes are meant to bring more people to the forums, though

rules are for mules

rules are for tools

I knew they were tightening harassment after that, and Retti had already said they were going to try and cut down on OT posts in important threads after "Demod Jericho Now". The only surprise there was the trolling thing which is horribly unclear there, I agree.

if the objective of this ruleset is to make things like what i did violation-worthy then it's a positive change

but, if that's the case, it should also actually be worded that way

I just replied, Rutab.

Check your PMs if you can Mika

4-5 Harassment violations are not easy to pick up.

And I know you'd have gone unpunished because a mod expressly said that due to the wording of the rule they couldn't do anything. If you'd done it again they could've stretched it to HC but singular, unprovoked attacks are essentially unpunishable under the old rules.
deletedover 10 years
notes should definitely stick around for, like, 6 months though
deletedover 10 years
notes are a necessary evil, considering how quickly the punishment scale goes from "slap on the wrist" to "permanent ban"
deletedover 10 years
A note is nothing.
deletedover 10 years
nah that would've gotten me at least a note, even under the "old" rules
deletedover 10 years
Yeah, but that incident really helped push these rules through because you technically broke no rules.

I'm talking about your "cranking" of appleofmyeye (and Slow) the other week, which I know for a fact gave these rules added impetus. The mods decided they want to stop that and I don't think anyone can really say that's a bad thing.

I'm at work, Rutab.

yeah, i was out of line then and apologized to her

seeing as i've been reported one time in my entire time on this website for harassment, and said time was less than 24 hours ago over something that's nothing near the actual harassment i haven't been reported for, i don't think the issue is with the way the harassment rule is written

but it's cute that you tried to make it about me. isn't that a personal attack? can't i get you a trolling vio now?

Mika are you available on Skype

The "feeling trolled" is a pretty dumb way for them to phrase it, though.
deletedover 10 years
You know that's not true, given you're one of the main reasons they tightened the harassment/flaming guidelinds.

Mods have always deleted posts so at least now there's some sort of guideline.
