I always put the lid down and attach the catch in case of a tsunami backwash that blasts upwards when you pull the chain.

bc bits get around in the bathroom apparently. i also now put it down because he's drilled that fear in me >:{

I only just saw this. I don't think I've ever put the top lid down to flush. That is particularly over-cautious.

the paradoxal thing about it is that often the more scared you are of them and the more things you do to keep yourself "hygenic" and clinically clean, the more dangerous they become

thats disgusting it makes them look ragged and awful and theres all kinds of dirt and germs under there even if you wash your hands and clean them reguarly

i stand by the fact that having to lift the lid is the most unhygienic because you have to put your fingers under it and therefore bacteria can get under your fingernails

if you're washing your hands properly afterwards this is a non issue ;)
