Hey sup guys it's sonseray,
Featured setups are actually one of the few changes to the site since I've come back that I really approve of. I think it's a great idea to get players who usually don't venture outside of classic mafia/fancy pants to try setups that require critical thinking and analytic skill. I think the featured setups idea has a whole lot of potential and I'd really like to see it work.
However:
Setups like sex and lies can't be featured, because they are far too complicated for the average player in a red hearts game. I ran on sex and lies on gold hearts not too long ago and I literally had to explain the concept of the mason list every single game. I tried to play sex and lies while it was featured like two days ago and I just wasn't invested enough to spend all game explaining things that most of these players don't want to understand. They usually just lynch day one. Setups that require slightly more complicated strategies like the mason list are simply beyond comprehension for some users. In this regard, featuring sex and lies and other setups similar to it is a complete failure. Instead of teaching players to play more advanced setups, they are learning how to play it the wrong way and eventually bringing those mentalities into gold heart games.
Setups like b2ns, jan 2.0, and c14 dawnstart need to be featured every single time if the idea is to work as intended. Namely, setups that are very straightforward and easy to understand while still stimulating basic scumhunting and scum play skills. When I play b2ns and c14 dawnstart while it is featured, I see the tables filling fast and I usually don't even have to explain why we can't NL day one. For these setups, it is absolutely working as intended. I've also seen players I wouldn't expect to attempt gold hearts games in my gold heart b2ns games. Please feature setups like these every single time. Do what works.
