It was a good business decision. If you haven't heard, sony had numberous leaks recently including movies that haven't come out yet, private emails that revealed upcoming movie information, and more. These attack were recently confirmed by the govt. to be done by north korea. If they did that, they could probably hit sony harder, and their movie division is already doing terribly as it is. They probably had no other choice.
