I really wish I didn't have to get 1500 points again so I could just come back every blue moon and play comp with old timers. It takes too long losing games because of dumb people
You need 1500 points to join the competition. Once you have 1500 you will be able to click the "join competition" button.
Once you do, you will be able to compete in the current competition. You get 5 gold hearts a day for the duration of the competitive round. You cant have more than 10 at a time, so if you have too many when the hearts reset (midnight EST) you will lose however many hearts after 10 you have.
Every gold game will waste a gold heart and count towards your points in the competition. At the first day, everyone will have 0 points, and every day of the round they will be able to accumulate more points as they win in games. Once anyone reaches 2000 points (this is like the finish line) the competition will end at midnight EST. Do note that it does not finish the second a person hits 2000, but at the end of that day instead (which means that those that haven't used their hearts can still get more points). The top 3 after that day will receive trophies.
Because of the way gold hearts are given out each day, you should join a competition the first day of the round for best results. On average, to win a trophy you will need at least 3 wins out of 5 each day (but of course, getting 0 one day does not kill you and 5 guarantees nothing). Most trophy winners will have about a little over 60% winrate on that round. Dont be discouraged if your winrate at the beginning is lower, each round lasts usually 10 days, so there's plenty of room to improve on later days. The first day, the scoreboard will be filled with people with perfect winrates, but as time goes on you will see it will balance out

Competitive (also known as gold-heart) rules are much like red heart, except the atmosphere is usually more intense and games have a tendency to last longer. Gold heart games can be refunded in cases where rule-breaking puts the town or mafia at a severe disadvantage, so people are under more scrutiny than in redheart.
