The role marker is indeed a very handy feature imo! You can use it to sort claims in setups with claims and easily see who are the cc's (so where's possible mafia).
I also use them to order my thoughts. Like when I think someone's probably town I make them blue, which makes it easier for me to narrow the possibilities down.

okay, ... haven't tested gray icon yet, but definitely going to test that...

I also recommend using the role marker. If you click on the grey icon next to a person's name, you can mark them as a certain role. Makes life much easier! ^^'
You go here and play 'On The Run The Getaway' for 45 hours straight, then when you go to bed that night, the wizard Merlin will appear to you completely naked in your dreams and he will tell you how to take claim(s)

If there are whispers, get them to claim in two whispers. This is to avoid leaking (10% of whispers leak)
In the first whisper, they should say all of the roles, seperated by a slash, like this:
Then, in the second whisper, you should say the role the corresponds to you, like this:
