Cheater players

almost 11 years

Why do people cheat or start cheating rings, discuss

what can we do to prevent cheating players

why do we not accuse cheaters of cheating until the round is done?

and why do cheating players end up becoming mods?

Not really, the main issue with doing it independently is that one doesn't have some of the tools that mods do.

However, working in a large group sometimes impairs judgement as someone is bound to be friends with the cheater, making you feel bad about investigating them in a way that you wouldn't alone. So both have their ups and downs but I don't think motivation or recognition are either since you get just about the same recognition whether you are a mod or not

You don't need tools to spec games.

No, but it's certainly easier and faster with mod tools, not to mention access to banids, alts, and other ongoing investigations that could be relevant. You misunderstood me if you thought I implied it was somehow necessary.

I'm not surprised Edark took my first two sentences completely out of context, ignored the rest of my post, and rejected it thoughtlessly

you never cease to amaze me Edark

Cheating is for the incapable. I've always been amazing at everything I've done so I've never had to cheat.

Don't kid yourself, you're just incapable of cheating :^) sux2suck

a lot of the best cheater catchers did it independently from the mods

i can totally see that; one issue from those looking for cheaters independently might be that they feel they won't get the recognition they deserve, or it's as if they aren't getting anything out of all the hard work it takes to "solve the puzzle," or find the cheater. so the issue is a lack of motivation

If you don't have motivation prior to applying for mod-ship to catch cheaters you don't have what it takes, IMHO.
