Before anyone thinks this is a troll thread, I am being completely serious and I want some serious answers if I can get them.

I know a lot has happened over a long time, and I understand the basis for all the actions taken in recent events. All of the little things can add up to a big change in the long wrong and anyone can understand that. What I don't understand is why this site has continued to become more and more censored with each and every action. There have been things in place for a long time such as Hateful Comments, Inappropriate bio, Inappropriate name, etc. What I don't understand is how everyone is taking everything so seriously. People used to not take things so hard and now it seems as if everyone takes everything literally and offensively. It's like everyone became a huge wuss over time and doesn't tolerate a joke. Everyone is becoming more and more childish too when the don't get their way (sam3278 and Riddler are prime examples). I'll explain what I mean when I reference these two people if you ask.

I'm not saying that these comments are ever right, but in certain circumstances they don't warrant violations at all. It's definitely not right to full-out make fun of someones race, religion, and beliefs, but if one person doesn't say the right things and an oversensitive member takes it offensively, the "offender" is screwed. When did everyone become such a huge wuss?

I would like to discuss this more and add more of my views depending on what you guys say or ask. Again, this is meant to be a serious topic and I think it deserves some serious debate and discussion.

I don't believe I've broken any rules in posting this so I'm going to be a little upset if this gets locked or deleted. If I am breaking any rules, please tell me how and I will edit my post or remake it so that it is following the rules. Discuss.

Why do we need to police ourselves on the internet? (Serious time)

A good analogy would be like why unions form - if the organization treats the employees well, they don't unionize. If the organization starts to take advantage, then they unionize to protect themselves and their interests.

There's a legal theory out there I remember learning about which essentially says where things are only restricted if people choose to act out of line. You can get by with unwritten rules if everyone acts within the socially acceptable guidelines. When that is breached, more formal measures need to be put in.

This is often true of regulations, think of like government regulations on factory production output - if the companies are initially socially responsible and make measures themselves to ensure that their production doesn't harm the environment (or at least mitigates it as much as possible). Because a lot of factories produced an amount that isn't good for the environment, restrictions are added to ensure that it happens.

I hope these examples sort of make sense about why things are as they are.

The only thing that Lucid is responsible for is the IC violation. Other community violations have become more strict that have nothing to do with the Google's policies.

Laexio's reign is about as relevant now as Babylon is to the modern world.

What I don't understand is why this site has continued to become more and more censored with each and every action.

IMO change in administration causes change in moderation standard. Between Laexio's reign and Bronto's reign the threshold for what was considered "offensive" changed.

The issue isn't really the change, the issue is the consistency. If mods were consistent with their verdicts then the change wouldn't feel so sudden as you mention. There would merely be gradual shifts as the community evolves, but not huge jumps from one case to the next.

People always try to exploit the rules, and the rules allow them to exploit not having a thick skin.
