Since the Training Round is going to be disabled, I thought it'd be a good idea to try and come up with other ideas for mini-competitions and games that we could play. I thought of this just now, so there are things to be worked out.
I was thinking something like a "Setup of the Week" competition, where each week we'll pick a setup, and whoever can win the most games on that setup in the week wins, we can keep a scoreboard or something like that. This would also be a good way for people to learn new and different setups to play.
Any other ideas, if you have them, please feel free to share.
Intermediate lobbies have been tried in the past and were unsuccessful, however the playerbase of both lobbies has changed. I think it would be wise to implement either:
1) Minimum point requirement for Training comp (say, 5k?). Too often a noob with 2 games and 0 points will throw games away because they're 'bad' (we've had docs out d1, cops not cc all game - you name it). I know it's TRAINING lobby (before I get abuse) so this point requirement should only be applied to COMPETITIVE games within that lobby. Noobs are therefore free to throw classic while those more experienced can play competitive games safe in the knowledge that the game will be won on skill, rather than whether a player knows what the hell is going on.
2) Intermediate Lobby. It's be done before, but as I understand this was years ago. The type of player in Training/Comp has surely changed since then - with EM’s growing popularity came more people in training, some getting experienced in training and then they ended up in comp where their skills development plateaus. There's now a huge difference between the lobbies and the calibre of skill. An intermediate lobby would be the next step for training players - perhaps make it compulsory to switch lobbies if a player reaches a certain point level to avoid point-farming in training/abuse of training? Competitive setups can be played in Intermediate without much abuse if you make a mistake. There's still an element of 'training' at this point, but it's more rewarding when you do play well. It’s also an incentive to move across to comp (once you're accustomed to the play of competitive games).
I'd also consider making the 'prizes' for rounds different - if you can get a trophy in training and comp, why bother running in comp at all? I'd do 'medals' or something for intermediate and trophies exclusively in comp. Again, further incentive to move to comp when you're ready.
tl;dr Intermediate lobby or minimum point requirement.
This opens the gates for clusterfucks to cover each other & possibly 'cheating rings'.

Make the link to the wiki more obvious for new users so they can learn how to play the game without somebody having to point it out to them every time.
No to the other lobby, Not much people would play on it, Plus, Training is pretty much an intermediate lobby, Why not make a lobby for people who played less than 50-100 games? And they cant enter the Intermediate Or The "Training Lobby" I'd suggest a name change, Until they play more than 50-100 games.

I like the negative points idea by Satan but I want to add a modification. There are currently "hot streaks" in training. If I win three games in a row, I'm on a three game hot streak. What if negative hot streaks (or losing streaks) were to be implemented for gold heart games? I say we put back the competition in training but add the losing streaks. For every loss after your first, I say you lose points. The more you lose in a row, the more points you lose.
It's not a "new lobby for a competition". It's a lobby where intermediate people would go, those who really care about improving their gameplay, AND they could do so also in a competition.
It won't split nothing further, since people who plays that kind of games, will keep playing those, and people who just plays Fancy Pants, Coco's and Classic will just stick to those.
But Training, without the competion, barely teaches the basics. If you want Training to prepare people for COMP, then you need to let them learn, in some way. And the Training Comp showed being good in this. Since they now removed it, AT LEAST make a lobby where only people WHO REALLY WANTS TO play to improve can be... Or Training will just be a name, not what that lobby does.
Just make the 'intermediate' lobby and put the competition there already. LaurieRose - a mod- is already trying to do that but it's not working out since it's a custom lobby and basically people forget about it.
Also if anyone is suspected of cheating, just ask some of the not-new players who played some games with them if they think they cheated or not. i.e. idk which round was the 2nd round of training but if it was the one in which phae-sth cheated to gold and betmen got suspended, it was kinda uncanny how phae would win his games as mafia and how people opted not to lynch him if he wasn't cleared. On the other hand, the games in which I played with betmen (which were basically our last 10 hearts or so, not the games which he played at the beginning of the round) he didn't seem to be cheating at all, if anything sometimes he was way off and he really seemed to get upset when losing.
Skillz I really like the black hearts idea. It would make things fair for everyone in my opinion. As for player of the month and player of the week, I don't see a reason for them to be implemented. Nobody's going to care about them anyways.
