The pairings are here on this google.doc http://bit.ly/1wGIbDx . The colors will be fixed, and given an equal number of times for each player (there might be a 5th round, if so each of the final games will be given a random color). The number next to your game will be a 1 for a win, 0 for a loss, 1/2 for a draw.
Hello, I felt like making a tournament for the chess players of this site. For those who don't know how to play a swiss tournament here are the rules.
- Everyone will play every round:
In this way everyone will play an equal number of games, and you'll get to play against all levels of players, the further into the round the more likely you will play against someone of the same level. This idea is to minimize the number of people who have 0 points. If there are an odd number of players. I will give the lowest positioned player a 1 point bye, and I will play them in a game for the meantime.
- Draws will be allowed:
Draws in elimination tournaments are lame, you have to play again and you may not get anywhere. If you draw in a swiss tournament though you get to continue on as you please. If you do draw each players will get .5 points.
- You will get an equal number of chances to be each color:
Unless we do an odd number of rounds, I will make best effort to give everyone and equal number of game as white and black. Later parts might lead to problem with colors, sorry in advance if you get more games as white or black.
The time control will be 15 min countdown timer.
If you have the same score as someone you played earlier, you will not play them again.
You're going to have fun playing new people, playing against a person twice ruins the idea of a tournament.
- No computers please
I can't enforce this unless I bother to run it through an engine myself. With that, please send in the .pgn of the game that the site gives you. It will be fun to see what people did, and those things will help you get better if you like playing this type of thing.
I'll leave this open for a week, meaning tournament registration will close at 7/18 at 11:59 EST (8:59 PST, 6:59 GMT)
Any questions on how this type of tournament works, pm me as I will be more than willing to give you a better rundown.
Try to be efficient on playing your games. If you don't get responses from your opponent in a reasonable time please tell me. I will kick those players out, and give you an opponent with the same problem within reason. If you wish to drop out message me and I will remove you before the next round starts. I would suggest not doing this as there are not any prizes to this, unless people wish to donate for it. The longer into the tournament you play, the more chances to find wins.
