Training lobby.

deletedover 10 years

I don't know if I've just been having bad experiences with it lately, but training lobby is becoming intolerably bad. 1 in 3 games end with a veg and in any given game you'll be lucky if more than half the players are actively trying to win and I don't think this is something that can be solved by simply trying to make people more proactive.

I believe that training lobby should become unranked only and we should move the ranked games to a new lobby. This would stop new players from joining the first game they see and tabbing out and ruining every other game and would mean only people who actually want to play ranked will go to the new lobby.

I know I am probably in the minority by having this opinion, and even if I wasn't it probably wouldn't happen anyway, but it is my opinion that training lobby isn't what it should be and definitely isn't what everyone wants it to be.

Thoughts?

There is an intermediate focused lobby called UMad, I'm working on getting the name changed to INtermediate (old name when lobbies first came out) Feel free to click on lobby, I"ll approve you

this is not an officially endorsed lobby.

downvoting me for asking question is childish. the only way this will work is if the new lobby is set to the default lobby for everyone who has met the requirements (point requirement, game requirement, whichever), because fact is that people are lazy and aren't going to keep switching.

Comp Lobby really isn't that bad guys, you should definitely consider giving it a try.

Welcome to the kindergarten lobby.

It's a great point and something I'll talk to lucid about. There are going to be pros and cons of any changes that are made, if they are made, but there is validity to what you're suggesting here.

The point of this idea is not just to make ranked in training more bearable, but also to try and give new players a better experience in unranked games. And yes I know this is probably just wishful thinking and that nothing will ever change.

why not up the amount of unranked games new users have to play before entered ranked? 4 is mad easy to accomplish.

i'll admit that a lot of the people who actually run in comp are complete cvnts (and i used to have exactly the same outlook as you) but you'd be surprised how nice and easy going the majority of the players who do red hearts in comp are and how different it is to gold hearts, you'll make better friends there than you ever could in training and they also have at least some competence too so you'll get a good game

FMPOV training should be simply training.. a lobby where complete noobs can learn to play the game. although i love training comp, it makes it harder for those who legitimately want to run, as there may so happen to be less experienced players who want to play the ranked games. vegges happen, everyone gets mad. can't we have a "beginners" lobby for the complete noobs? or even if we just keep training lobby, make one of those rules (like comp has) where a new player has to play a certain amount of wins/points in order to run in comp? i don't mind new players playing in red heart but when they run in comp and continually veg/sui/gt it gets kinda annoying.

agreed.

I totally agree with you JAC, having exact same thoughts as you. Training lobby should be only up with ranked games. And most important, last year or even more, 2 years ago, the noobs actually tried. Today they just dgaf, feel annoyed by asking them to talk. And if we add to this trolls which became legion, training lobby is now a no man's land to play. Literally 80% of my training ranked games are played with ispers and trolls fillin the half of the room, which becomes hard to scumhunt or even play. Because that's all why we're here, to play a text game.

You should be able to tell how much I don't want to play in comp if I'm willing to put up with the stuff that happens in training lobby.

have you never heard of red hearts in comp lobby

Well, every lobby has ranked and unranked capabilities. Training is "supposed" to be there for actually preparing for competition. This has not happened recently, though. The competition that is played here is being played mostly by those who have no gold hearts left in comp lobby that don't want to play dice wars or fancy pants.

Honestly, I really do agree with you in that if people want to take a step further and become seriously serious about improving should work for it, by making the next step perhaps into an in between lobby, before making it all the way into comp lobby instead of just getting in there.

I agree

This would also allow you to 'clean up' the current training lobby (by moving the circlejerky things like SITD away from the default lobby) and would give new players a better first experience. You could limit the lobby to a few basic setups to let people get a feel for the mechanics before moving on, a bit like a tutorial lobby, rather than a training one.
