yeasayer's music thread80
i really like the idea of sharing a song a day so that's something i'm going to try to put into practice with this thread, give or take days when i don't have a valuable contribution or just forget to pop in and share. i feel like i've seen a lot of variations on this theme so credit goes wherever it's due and while the purpose is mostly just me sharing things i like, anyone who comes across this thread is welcome to upvote whatever they like - turning off comments for the time being, no offense but i don't have the energy to engage with people right now. if i do, i'll reenable them. i appreciate you reading this, really. ☁️

i definitely get that, i'm always walking a similar line w/ my own home country cultural dynamics between not making excuses and also not making sweeping claims about our cultural norms
but her visual style is still really satisfying and i will also pretend i do not see and send my support to her and her music

i feel like the theme of the past few days has been women in pop that i love and would give my heart and wallet to without a second thought- minus daniel, but i also really love him! he can have my heart and wallet, too. ANYWAY, HERE'S RINA. what i like so much about rina sawayama is that i feel like her music encompasses the 80's, the 90's and the 00's in equal measure without ever feeling forced or insincere. like, i genuinely believe she has a time machine and has been to each of these decades, clubbed in all of them and come back to share her findings with us in song. nbt showed me this song a while ago and i remember watching this video and being so amazed that she just exuded this insane and effortless star energy that made me want to listen attentively to anything she released thereafter. that's leo suns for you, i guess.

the song of the day is still depressed and pensive cancer moon drake, but on a slightly, slightly more optimistic note. i think take care is his best album and that's not really open for debate - obviously, everything is an opinion but some things are just the law of the land. this is also my favorite opening track of any of his albums, so there's that.

everything about when i get home is so ethereal and dreamlike to me that i wish i could make this whole album the song of the day, because every single song on it (and all of the interludes) deserves it. however, i'm going with the first favorite i had from this album. if anyone has the opportunity to watch the entire film she made to accompany this album (which was woefully deleted from youtube) then i'd recommend it a million times over. an incredible case study in afrofuturism, the magical qualities of black culture in texas (no, this is not sarcasm) and also, solange being beautiful and otherworldly.

the thing i would like the most right now is:
