new toxicity rule1,074
the mod team has been considering the idea of making a new rule that encompasses game-related toxicity that doesn't fall under the umbrella of harassment or hateful comments. i'm making this thread so that we can have an open discussion with the community about your feelings on how this rule should be implemented.
here's a few key factors of the rule that the mod team tentatively agree on, but you're welcome to express your disagreement:
-the rule would be for game-related violations, and would not apply to reports or the forums
-the rule would encompass significant toxic behavior in a game that might not fall under harassment or hateful comments, such as repeatedly berating and insulting players in such a way that would make the game environment unpleasant to be in. this would not encompass a user calling another user "stupid", or using a normal amount of intimidation and aggressiveness as a strategy to win the game
-here's a draft of what the rule may look like if we implement it:
"any form of severe toxicity directed towards the other players in the game. This may include, but not limited to excessively berating another player because you do not like the way they are playing"
please leave your thoughts and comments on whether or not you support this rule, how you think we should implement it, and any other concerns/suggestions you might have!
this seems like policing player behavior in ways that arent necessary. if it doesnt fall under harassment or spamming, why does it matter? reading someone in EM, a text based game, is hard enough without forcing them into smaller and smaller boxes of acceptable behavior. If someone wants to play hard headed and dominate the game, not allow anyone else to get control of the game, that's a a choice they should be allowed to make.
trying to avoid buzzwords, but a game of epicmafia isnt a safespace. if player X has the hammer, and you know they can have a bit of a limp wrist, you should try to abuse that knowledge. and if youre player X and youre not okay with being emotionally manipulated (which is completely valid), maybe dont play mafia?
but I dont know, I scanned a bit and didnt see anyone linking a game of someone exhibiting toxic behavior. maybe my mind would be changed, I just dont think it's a good idea to police behavior in a game that's behavior based. but if epicmafia is just a social hangout these days anyway, then go crazy
The fact that this rule got passed through is a testament to the vagrancy of this site's "leadership." I don't stand for it, and neither should you. That's why I'm encouraging a sitewide boycott against reporting anyone for this new rule.
I don't care if you're mortal enemies with someone, I don't care if they made you super mad in-game; we CANNOT let these mods get away with this kind of dystopic horror that will just lead to an enforced popularity contest.
Furthermore, I'd like to offer my services as legal counsel to anyone afflicted by this rule. If you get reported for this and need someone on your side, I'm there - pro bono, of course. I'll represent you with the fervor I just represented stinky with, because I find this new rule morally reprehensible.
Remember! Your feelings being hurt will go away, but the loss of our freedoms won't.
