I have a question about OGI,

Is it OGI to accuse people of cheating if theyre actually cheating?

If people are confirmed cheating then technically its no longer outside the game?

Sleepincolor accuses Jolo8t and Juicysquash of cheating https://epicmafia.com/report/285925

Sleepincolor gets an OGI violation

But it turns out that Jolo8t and Juicysquash were actually cheating https://epicmafia.com/report/286083

https://epicmafia.com/report/286084

So if technically the cheating did occur in game then technically Sleepincolor never actually used OGI?

Is it OGI to accuse people of cheating if theyre actually cheating? answer: yes

the same goes for GT. if you accuse ppl GTing you will get OGI vio. even if they are town and voting prs and hardcore trolling and using r word, n word and all the words you can imagine that are illegal and literally throwing the game, you will still get OGI vio

ogi is ogi regardless of whether or not a rule was broken. verdicts are given by moderators, not players - if you suspect someone is cheating or tossing, file a report after the game. in addition, with the case youre referring to, sleepincolor was a rolemod at the time and should not have been using a cheating case to gain ground in a mafia game.

Completely agree with alexandra. OGI is OGI if you try to influence the votes using threats or pretend threats.
SonginMay 25, 2020
OGI does not require intent nor does it factor in whether or not you were correct. The OGI rule is there so that other people don't have to worry about their reads being influenced by outside means.

I love how accusing someone when someone breaking the rule, IS breaking the rule.

It's like you get jailed for reporting that someone murder your mom.
FlygonMay 25, 2020
yeah it's exactly like that

if you use that to get someone to flip their vote, then that is also ogi

please call the police and report a murder, do not try to influence the game with it

it’s mainly to prevent situations where people legitimately think someone is breaking a rule (like grudging them) when they aren’t

mods give verdicts, not players

it’s not fair for someone to sway the game by saying “you’re grudgevoting me stop right now” and then have it not be true and them say “well i THOUGHT they were grudging me so it’s not ogi”.

it’s a lot more consistent to just not allow people to sway the game based on the rules

Basically what blacksnake said. Call the police. If you think your high school friend murdered your mom, you should not try and have sex with them threatening them that you will call the police. Just call the police.

Additionally, your analogy is absolutely stupid. Breaking a rule in game is not at all analogous to murder. Shame on you.

A better analogy which utilizes his murder example would better be:

"I think my friend murdered my mother. I am going to yell at them and tell everyone around right now that they did it and. that I'm calling the cops."

Its unfair to accuse someone of a crime and tell everyone around you that they did it. Even if you did have proof they did it, why would you call a murder out right then and there?

Its better to get out first and foremost and then call the cops on them. This is the proper course of action in the case.
SonginMay 26, 2020
But like Pranay said, the analogy is ridiculous. You shouldn't compare murder with a game.

how about answer this dude's question first. then go in the detail about the reasoning. he asked simple question, whether it is still OGI, you are giving him a paragraph of explanation about how the OGI is dealt with but not giving the conclusion, YES or NO
VindraMay 27, 2020
I stand by my analogy. Crime is still a rule-breaking behavior

Then it's back to OP question : Is it actually OGI if someone knew someone else break the rules to ruin the game and they indeed are? Like, why would I STILL get jailed if my accusation is (proven by police) right? Why wouldn't police let me free if I'm not the one who actually broke the rules?

alexandra
mods give verdicts, not players
exactly. mods definitely have power to take "OGI-accuser" 's punishment back if someone indeed OGI-ing

Vindra this question has more depth but i will just give you one example to start with:

let's say you see a thief, you absolutely know he is a thief. you punch him in the face and stop the theft.
the thief gets punished for the theft, but he testifies that you were abusive to him and you get punished for punching him. the law does not care whether the guy was involved in a theft or not, you still get punished.

similarly in mafia game, it does not matter whether you know somebody was using OGI or GT, you can not punish him during the game by breaking the rules on your own
VindraMay 27, 2020
what if I'm just screaming "hey everyone, he is a thief reeeeee" why would I get handcuffed for that?

and if we go by your case, it's not an abuse, it's a self defense. I did that BECAUSE he did crime that affected me. I wouldn't "punch" him if he didnt steal first.

screaming is fine, because there is no law about screaming. i used the punching analogy because there are site rules that say you can not influence the game by pointing out gamethrows in your advantage.

again if that was self defense it would be fine. if you want to self defend during mafia game then you should try to lynch mafia or whatever counts towards your win condition. that's not against the rules.

the bottom line is that OGI is an outside of game action, pointing out gamethrows in order to gain advantage is outside of game action because you are using report system to influence other player's actions regardless of whether the gamethrowing takes place or not, you are influencing the game using report system.

vindra you’re making an incredibly dumb comparison

this isn’t law breaking, this is a mafia website. the rules aren’t changing
