VPN's15

Heyyy

(first i'd like to say i know y'all probably don't care, cause i'm not a very well known user but if you'd like to read, read, if not idc)

so i've been using a VPN for like 5 months now. I just thought i'd get one because "boOo scary internet" but i really didn't think i'd ever really need it.

Well that fukin changed. A little somebody really tried to get my fukin adress. (i won't say who, but that person knows very well that i'm talking about them when they read this)

It's been a little running joke we had (as in him wanting to know my adress). And that's what i thought it was, just a joke. I've been exchanging some PM's with said person in the past, when all of the sudden i get a link, nothing unusual.

But it wasn't your tipical link of course, otherwise i wouldn't be making this thread (;.

That link somehow snached my "adress" or rather a town (idk). The person who sent me the link sent me a pm tellin me they know where i live and givin me the name of a city or something (creepy right? :)). They told me about the link and how they used something (idk, idc) to get the link to snatch my ip or something. To be fair the link was named something weird. but i didn't read it as i expected it to be just another meme.

Now THANK GOD i got that fkin VPN some time ago. They would have really got my fkin adress or hometown or whatever idc. Maybe i'm just overreacting and this isn't something i should be scared about, but still i don't really feel comfortable with these things.

So that happened like 30 min ago /:.

Now i HIGHLY encourage you to get yourself a VPN. you may think it won't do any good, but trust me it does. Most do cost but it's a good investment trust me. If you can't afford one there are a lot of free ones.

(I'm using NordVPN)

Well i think i'm gonna selfdelete as soon as i am able to. I'm not sure though.

Thank you for reading luv y'all <3 <3 <3

viv ill miss u ):
It's pretty easy to figure out someone's general location by just giving them links from let's say "goo.gl" (google's link shortener). If you want to try it out just make a shortened link yourself and click on it a few times. Then try visiting the shortened link again with the + at the end

goo.gl/l6MS -> directs you to google's blog

goo.gl/l6MS+ -> shows you the info of people who click on the previous link

Again stop clicking on links on EM... Isn't there enough horror story about getting hidden linked

EDIT: there exists services outside of google that can even sniff out your IP, which is pretty scary

I tried to do that to LazyYami once.

I didn't do it right though.

Apples knows my IP, I clicked on a link once , Iā€™m scared now
You need to name and shame the player, for other players, to become aware of the user. I think you'll do more positively beneficially, than negatively.

However, yes .... I wouldn't click a link, if I wasn't aware of where it was going to redirect me. The internet can become a dangerous space, with the whole situation about getting people's IP addresses.

After reviewing evidence Phlorax has been given Exploit Abuse 1st for disguising an IP grabbing link as a youtube link.

This is unacceptable and doing it again will get you banned. Let this serve as a reminder to not click links without verifying where they redirect first. You can do this by hovering your mouse over the link and looking in the bottom left corner of your browser to see if the link matches what you expect. If it doesn't, and especially links somewhere dangerous, please report it.

@aquarius who gives a crud about IP grabbers?

every single website on the internet is an IP grabber, whether this is done by apache's HTTPD or NGINX, LIGHTTPD, microsoft's IIS etc etc.

An IP address is semi-identifying but strangers having an IP address is probably not going to be able to commit any computer crimes

There are several ip grabbers on this page:
- Amazon analytics
- Amazon's clients
- Imgur analytics
- Imgur's clients
- Google analytics
- Google's clients
- Lucid himself
