It doesn't disturb me that this sort of logic has been implemented as policy. What disturbs me is that the moderators of this site, and I'm sure lucid as well, have sadly fallen victim to delusional thinking in which the concept of free speech is no longer important. This is how American principles die on the internet.

This is how you kill off basic human rights. It starts with the silencing of dissent.

It won't matter for a simple website like this. But I would like those of you who believe this is justified logic to seriously read the paragraph I quoted above.

This is not sound legal, judicial, rational, or any sort of logical thinking. There are already numerous avenues to prevent poor quality and vulgar/indecent content on the website.

This is a step not only too far, but a sign of the times.

I don't intend to change your minds. I only ask that each of you who actually believes this is rational, enlightened, evolved human thinking to take a serious step back, and question EVERYTHING you know.

Because this is literally evil.

Literally no one asked for this.

The only justifiable reason to rewrite a rule and rewrite it this poorly is to enable moderators to do with the site whatever they want.

Also by definition of a safe space you can't have a space be safe for both a fascist and their direct victim, which is really telling of just how far in the sand your head is buried.

What blows my mind is that your heads are so far up some unfathomable depth of nothingness you call "intelligence" that you can't imagine for a second how this can affect gameplay, what precedent this sets to the younger crowds on here about governance and leadership, and how you literally just spent pages of forum space defending tyranny and totalitarianism in the form of a mafia website.

Mind blowing. Truly.

Once upon a time, Epicmafia was a fun place to be. Now it's a safe space for fascists and the victims of said fascists. Fun times, eh.

Well, you've exhausted my patience and concern. You've made it perfectly clear you can't understand anything other than the chasm of insanity you call your safe space.

I can imagine that I won't have people in pregame soliciting me for "feet pics" to satisfy their fetish, and personally I'm good with that effect on gameplay so lol.

I mean I agree with this change and yet somehow if Congress was to try to radically alter the first amendment tomorrow I'd be vehemently against it. It's almost as if a website's administration already has total power and yet nothing comes of it that you're so scared of.

Also by definition of a safe space you can't have a space be safe for both a fascist and their direct victim, which is really telling of just how far in the sand your head is buried.

It's mind-boggling how a terribly rewritten rule, allowing moderators to destroy any semblance of decent gameplay and humorous in-game content this site had, is welcomed and defended vociferously by a bunch of pandering nincompoops.

Well, if this is the way the world ends, honk honk, you clowns. Enjoy your absolute bonkers reality where you think this is a coherent or logical rule.

This is the language from which tyranny is constructed. I cannot be more explicit about that.

Nuance has no place in policy or rules

And you can't justify the rule because it's unjustifiable.

I'm being tyrannical by bringing up how poorly written a rule is, allowing mods to abuse it?

Yall have lost your marbles.

>Not so. All I said was that it is against American principles.

There is no obligation for Epicmafia to follow these principles by using a US based hosting service. The hosting service may decide to no longer do business with epicmafia if it wishes, but that is a decision of the hosting service alone and is not representative of any universal obligation on Epicmafia's part to adhere to principles of whatever country its hosting service runs out of. You are frankly deluding yourself if you believe otherwise.

I'm not going to justify this rule to you because you will never see it as justified. My point here had been from the start that Epicmafia is under no obligation to justify any decision it makes to you because you don't own it and if you want to accuse anyone of tyranny, you can look no further than the person attempting to, with no actual basis, force principles that not all of Epicmafia's users live by onto them, i.e. you.

"If you make a discord server, you kick the person off because it's a private server, closed off from the rest of the internet by volition of the server creator.

This site is a public domain with advertisements and a registration process for any potential user worldwide to join. It is hosted by a US-based website hosting service."

There is no difference between the two even if you'd like to pretend. It has an open registration process and is open to the world simply because Lucid chooses to do so.

But thanks for conceding that it's legal.

The ruling of EM allows for abuse, yes, that is true, but it's clear as day what the spirit of the rule is. And that's to promote civility while people enjoy playing a social game. Yes, there is a chance that mods can be abusive, and it's happened before, but there are multiple mods, and they change. All of whom Lucid has power over. And say if Lucid writes his rules to your content? He is still capable of changing them completely overnight and there is nothing we can do. So essentially all of our time on this site is up to him, and it has always been this way. To call rules that require some focusing on the spirit of the law and nuance, "literally evil" is complete hyperbole.

"If you support that, you support tyranny, fascism, and genuinely you are by proxy permitting evil to run your microcosm of a society that is EpicMafia the website, game, and forum.

It is the stuff that makes people die in the darkness of soviet gulags and holocaust concentration camps.

You are extremely naive to think otherwise. Realize this and cleanse yourself of ill-gotten justifications"

LARP.

And again, just because a text-based game has some holes in the rules to allow for nuance doesn't mean people are promoting genocide or actual oppression. If you think so, it ironically goes to show how fragile and unstable you are.
about 5 years
My guess is you won't, because you are a reasonable person, and deep down you know that there is no reason to rewrite a perfectly fine rule, and at best, it should be rewritten to specify the problems you just mentioned, not generalize and grant sweeping arbitration to a moderator team that has zero oversight, zero supervision, and whom often feature volunteers that join for the sake of authoritative power in an artificial social environment.

Or we can keep circling the argument, as you want to do. I will keep returning it to the focal point.
about 5 years
You seem to be constructing my argument insofar as me stating that the current rule is illegal and against US law.

Not so. All I said was that it is against American principles. US hosting services like to follow said principles in general, as I mentioned earlier re: scams and viruses and generally bottom of the barrel websites, of which this obviously isn't one.

However, this website generally respected freedom of speech.

This rule does not have anything to do with the sexual topics you are mentioning. In fact, nowhere is that mentioned in the rule.

You keep circling the argument and not defending what I have said, quite clearly, is the problem: the rule is poorly written and permits the mods to do whatever they want, quite literally, as it is stated in the rule, and that I have demonstrated, both by example and specific language used.

So, are you going to continue circling or will you defend the rule itself in its current rewritten iteration?
about 5 years
>All it is doing is permitting the moderators on the website, who should not have more power than simply protecting users from literally harmful content and maintaining the quality of the game itself

And as the owners of the intellectual property that is this site, the owners/moderators have final say as to what their desired quality of the game looks like. If that involves making it very clear that no mention of sexual topics such as fetishes will be allowed, period, and that anything falling under that umbrella will be acted upon, that is the moderators' prerogative therefore.

You're severely overestimating how much domain US law has over the terms of service here. US Law can state that the terms should prohibit anything that is already codified as illegal. US Law cannot make the 1st Amendment, which applies specifically to Congress, apply to any other party unless it specifically passes a bill that says as such, which, you yourself admit, has not yet occurred, therefore you entire argument here doesn't have any grounds to begin with.
about 5 years
Moreover, users are not complaining that the rules are insufficiently protecting them. Literally no one asked for this. The only justifiable reason to rewrite a rule and rewrite it this poorly is to enable moderators to do with the site whatever they want.

If you support that, you support tyranny, fascism, and genuinely you are by proxy permitting evil to run your microcosm of a society that is EpicMafia the website, game, and forum.

Is this that big of a deal? See OP: "It doesn't disturb me that this sort of logic has been implemented as policy. "

I am calling you out and asking you to think reasonably.

This ain't it, chief. This is not reasonable, rational, logical, humane, efficient, optimal, or judicially sound. It is the stuff of nightmares in the real world, when implemented by dictators and fascists and totalitarians.

It is the stuff that makes people die in the darkness of soviet gulags and holocaust concentration camps.

You are extremely naive to think otherwise. Realize this and cleanse yourself of ill-gotten justifications.

This:

"Posting content anywhere on the site that,

> based on moderator discretion, could be considered overtly vulgar or

> indecent in nature. This includes, but is not limited to: any content

> that promotes indecent or severely offensive/inappropriate discussions

> or viewpoints, or images/links to content that falls under those

> guidelines. Inappropriate content that is found on the site will be

> deleted with or without prior notice"

is not well-written. It permits tyranny by any particular moderator who wants to implement it. It is terribly written and precisely how fascism takes rise in a given context of judicial, authoritative law.
