Korvivor: Strike System?

almost 6 years

So, for Korvivor has been ongoing for awhile, and I realize now that I don't really have a good penalty system for when people break my rules.

For the last several Seasons, I've had Suicides act as a 1-2 Season Ban and Vegging as a 1-2 Season ban, and additional punishments if they also cheated, etc. in the game depending on when/how it happens. However I realize this doesn't work because if it's a 1-Season ban there is a chance the player wasn't even gonna play the next season, meanwhile a 2-3 season ban there is a chance the player wanted to play all 2-3 seasons and banning them from all 3 could be deemed unfair.

So I was thinking of a compromise, using the Reservation System. When people reserve for Korvivor, I place Newbies to my series above Returnees, but after that it's whoever's first. However I was thinking of having a strike system, each player would get a strike for each infraction, and as a result would be listed below someone with less strikes. Each time they reserve they'd be placed based on this system, however they'd also have a strike removed.

I wanted other people's thoughts on this, and opinions, because I've had some players suicide/veg through multiple games, and I wanted to come up with an apt method of swaying people away from doing so.

so what's the strike system like when the host abandons his own game?

I was under a fair amount of stress and starting off with 2-3 something suicides didn't help.

I understand I let people down with that game, but I've resolved myself, and I'm in a better place since then that I don't forsee having that problem again.

Unless that's a genuine question as far as me quitting from people's suicides in a game? In which case I'd have to think through the suicides and the circumstance in which they joined.

its your game, ultimately you have every rights on who can play in your game and who cant

Right but I've never been outright mad enough at someone that I ever feel like saying (No you can't play in my games anymore, I never see myself being that selective. But there are some people with repetitive behavior that I'd like to discourage from repeating in my games.)

An example would be I have a player that has vegged in both of the games he's played in, I'm not sure if it's a connection thing, and I may talk to him about it if it happens again. But I feel like it's something I always remember when people are signing up. (Oh, you Vegged/Suicided or Medevaced the last time you played, is that something I need to worry about again this time? etc.)

Fwiw you can implement whatever consequences you see fit for things like suicides/veggies, but if people cheat in your games i strongly recommend that you report them to us. If they're cheating in your games then it's entirely possible that they are cheating in other games.

I mean I had one player cheat I think but it wasn't really a rule I could control. Not like alt watching or the like. More like I hosted an Anon game and you were forbidden from sharing who you were. I think someone broke that rule but I can't recall.

Sounds fine in theory, but I think most games have an issue where everyone who reserves don't show and hosts become very concerned with simply filling the game. With this strike system, offenders quite possibly could still get into games by just waiting for games to have trouble filling and just hop in themselves.

Nonetheless, cool idea and I'm quite possibly just being too critical :)

How about penalizing players who have strikes by only permitting them join late so they can't snipe spots?

If you have one strike you can only join 4 minutes after the game is supposed to start; if you have two strikes you can only join 8 minutes after the game is supposed to start...

You only get a strike removed after playing a full game without incurring another strike, so the punishment will apply to whatever game(s) the offender tries to join and they can't escape punishment. In this system, they would not be allowed to reserve at all.

This way new players and strikeless players are prioritized over players who have strikes, in a modified version of Kori's reserve-strike system.

I love the concept, def. needs a few tweaks, because all people who host, often deal with an occasional suicide or veg. I think a strike system is generous, but like Gold pointed out, an offender is likely to exploit the system at some point. I think if its a small offense a 1 game ban is fine, but if they repeat or continue to commit offenses, a perma ban. Cheating should probably be insta-ban (and brought to the moderators)
Now there would be wiggle room because sometimes you get a player, who joins a game, and ends up having to leave due to personal reasons.
