Five Basic Tips for Winning More

over 8 years

Hello everyone, I am Giga13/Giga/Giga96 ( https://epicmafia.com/user/220988 / https://epicmafia.com/user/144777 / https://epicmafia.com/user/450741 ).. I enjoy playing with all sorts of players and spotting differences between them, and from the many games that I have played along with the experience that I have gathered in over 4 years of playing, I felt that since I am no longer running mentoring, it would be nice to create something small like this to help people who are newer to the game by giving them a few small tips that, if followed, should lead to more winning (and therefore, better pie charts and higher round totals).

1. Talk, talk, and talk some more

It's a text based game. Lurking and sitting around isn't going to help anyone, especially not you or your team. You want to be active so that people know you're around and have less general doubts/questions about you. But you also don't want to be blabbering random nonsense, which leads me to...

2. Stay alive

Don't filler too much. If you're serious about winning you should act like it and try your best to see what other people are doing wrong as town or as mafia and use it to formulate reads against them in order to gain town credibility (or towncred for short), even if your read is wrong. The longer you are alive, the more input you will be able to put into the game and the likelier it is you win if you are doing things to make yourself appear town, regardless of your role or siding.

3. Look for interactions

Usually a player as mafia won't interact with all of their partners, and if they do, the interactions are usually short, unstable, and unfluid. If there is a lengthy interaction but it is mainly filler, this could be an indicator of two mafia talking to each other as well (more experienced players sometimes use this strategy to open days, especially early in the game).

If you see a townsperson have a lengthy, game-related discussion with a player who was lynched as mafia, they aren't clear by any means but generally the less experience players have, the less likely they are to bus partners with genuine interactions like the ones that happen between town and town or between town and mafia.

4. Observe & make judgement

Be cautious of all players involved in an interaction when observing one--it's not always clear cut that "one is town and one is mafia". They could both be town, or maybe they could both be mafia (but this is unlikely for less experienced players). On the other side of the coin, when you're mafia, look for an interaction between two townspeople that might be going on and try your best to give input on it without looking too fake or un-genuine. This could be an outlet for your survival.

5. Calculate & plan ahead

Know your mechanics and your odds and plan the best course of action before time on the day is running low. If you plan ahead as town OR as mafia, your chances for improving will vastly succeed as opposed to going full yolo at the ends of days, outing roles that don't need to be outed, claiming the wrong role or taking the wrong course of action as town or as mafia, or being indecisive to the point where as a clear you're losing the trust of your village.

Thank you for reading, and happy playing! I can answer some basic questions if you have any, just post below.
