At the end of the day you require a socioeconomic system in which workers are incentivized to overachieve in their positions, and I'm afraid Communism doesn't work on that premise. I don't really get the whole 'product of prejudice' debate when I don't attribute any system to prejudice. Prejudice is a product of the people and their culture. I don't see how trying to equalize the social groups in the world will stop prejudice, and I don't see how allowing people to have property rights and a system built around the individual will stop prejudice either.

You also have to think about when and where Communism was conceived of. Communism was conceived of in Europe where you had the aristocracy coming off the monarchies that controlled the governments at the time. Communism wasn't conceived as a rebuttal to Capitalism, rather more of a rebuttal to the Aristocracy at the time. True, he mentions Capitalism in his teachings and such, but you're looking at a time in which Capitalism was in its infancy and none of the world powers at the time actually subscribed to that socioeconomic system besides America (who by the way didn't even touch coast to coast at that time). He's making a grand statement about a system he knew very little about. It's true that Socialism paves the way to Communism, but Capitalism does not. It's true that it's much simpler for a society that was ruled by the Aristocracy to have a more Socialist government than a Capitalist government. The populace is just going to see the Socialist government as more fair due to ignorance and fear of how Aristocracy --> Capitalism would work.

Sure I think things will evolve and change over time, but if you're speaking of the most prosperous system right now, it is Capitalism.

Eris you do make a solid point. Capitalism has been a product of prejudice too. However, prejudice has become such a problem that its not even just capitalists its the whole world. Honestly i'm not hostile towards communism ideas i think communism would be a great system if it didn't end so badly. And neither do i agree wholeheartedly with capitalism either. I think identifying with any socioeconomic system is lame because i see too many sides of everything anyway. In conclusion, i am actually not even a capitalist im just an 18 yr old who likes my nice things.

Communism rejects the state, yes, but it still requires enforcement of some kind. It's naive to think that once a communist society is formed, everyone will adhere to its principles.

If you want communism to work, have inclusion be voluntary.

Luckily human nature isn't a constant and is in fact, a malleable construct.

Real communism wouldn't last two days unless we literally killed everyone off but little kids and let them remake the society.

Communism is indeed untested. Anyone who points to so-called Communist states is missing the point that most of those states were just State Capitalist and none of them were communist. The very fact they were states is proof of this, as communism rejects the notion of the state. Communism is unrealized because it requires the material conditions necessary for a withering of social relations and state, like class relations, and so forth to be achieved.

Marx believed communism was an inevitability and the next stage of the social order after capitalism. Whether that's true or not is a matter of debate and also something that really can't be proven. Whatever the case capitalism is merely another method in a long chain of organizing the productive forces of society and will eventually be replaced, just as mercantilism was replaced by capitalism.

Also Reamix prejudice is invariably wound up in the capitalist mode of production. Just stop and think about a prison for a moment in America. What are the demographics of prison versus the outside? Do prisoners work and how much are they paid? Do prisons buy goods? Stop and think about that, you'll see there's economic incentive to oppress certain people.

If you guys want to read about leftyism done right, I recommend you investigate about Rafael Correa and his government in Ecuador, although lacking in environmental policies, he has applied the right methods to get his country prospering in just 6 years by regulating the market correctly, looking for the right foreign investment and supporting national production at the same time.

...Anyways, what is this thread even going to accomplish if you try making EM communist and take away my background bc not everyone can buy one i for one will protest.

SirAmelio says

Communism doesn't even make everyone equal. There are always people in the power.

What you are referring to is state capitalism which is not communism, true communism is a theoretical idea that no one needs to be on top of anyone and everything can be split evenly.

That being said, I think communism is a utopia that will never be reached. Also, we leftsists believe in a world where resources are split evenly amongst people. In my specific case, I believe in a world where that can be reached without destroying the market paradigm, and some may be richer than others, as long as none are dying of hunger. It's as simple as regulating the market in the correct manner. (Which is not that simple at all)

What it comes down to is simply this: Today's young hippies/uber leftists/tumblr activists.. they dream of a world where everyone is equal and happy sharing and holding hands.

Unfortunately they are forgetting to read their history books. I guess it will be easy to hold each others hands once all the blood starts to dry and gets sticky.

Yeah, I wasn't refering to you, you do seem to know stuff about the topic.

I know stuff Mr. Amelio. Before this argument pops up: What about China/Vietnam today? They are Communist and they are doing fine!

Funny thing about that though is that they aren't Communist anymore, even if they call themselves that. Vietnam soon realized after the Vietnam War that full blown Communism just isn't going to work, and so they altered things.

China and Vietnam essentially did the same thing. Label themselves as Communist, run the government like Communists, but for the most part allow the market to be free/Capitalistic.

After 30-80 MILLION of their people starved to death (depending on who you ask).. China kinda woke up a little. It's called Totalitarianistic Capitalism. Dictatorships with an open market.. still not the best option but whatya gonna do.

Here's a tip from a voluntaryist. If you're advocating for a communist way of life, practice what you preach.

That being said, if you want to live such a communist lifestyle, you're free to do so, in my opinion. Just don't force other people to live the same way.

Don't down vote the truth. Stalin's Purges, China starvation, Pol Pot's executions.

Communism assumes the world is already at its best economic state, and that everyone is a robot. Since that is not possible, nor will it be anytime soon, communism fails before it begins.

People like to spout "oh but that wasn't real Communism," yes it was. You tried it, millions of your people died or were murdered.

Hipster doofus' of today want to try "Anarcho-Communism." Yet the phrase itself "Anarcho-Communism" is self hypocritical. With Anarchy nothing is controllable; everyone just does/takes what they want. Ideals like Communism won't hold true because nobody has adhere to them; and why would they? It's anarchy! If I want to steal 50 HDTVs I will!

In order to enforce Communism, you need to do just that: ENFORCE it. How do you ensure Communism? Dictatorships. what do Dictatorships lead to? Things like: Stalin's Purges, China's Starvation, Pol Pot's Executions. You really want to live in a world the way North Korea does?

Besides, what makes you think you'll be able to enjoy EM in Communism? Under Communism western ideals/luxuries, such as watching TV and playing video games, most likely would be completely outlawed because, after all, you don't need those things. Not everyone has an HDTV so if not everyone can have one, nobody can. If you are caught with an HDTV in your house, Commissar Jamal and Commissar Cleetus will confiscate it and then escort you to the local "Rehabilitation Center" were you will surely never be seen again.

Grow up kids, realize what you have in your life right now and how it was obtained, and throw away your Che Guevara posters. BONUS NOTE: Che Guevara, the poster child of modern commies, was notoriously racist and likely very homophobic. When Che helped Castro take over Cuba, Castro turned it into a Dictatorship and Che simply left Cuba and it's people to suffer under said Dictatorship. Some "Fighter for the people."

^^^ communism is an ideal socioeconomic system but it never ends up working out, pretty much impossible to rid a society of social classes without having more than half the population hate you. a shame really :(

Communism works great, until you are forced to execute/starve millions of your population.
